Gainesville, Florida — A Florida mother is facing serious criminal charges after authorities say her 2-year-old daughter suffered life-threatening injuries following an alleged assault that left the child unconscious and struggling for survival.
The case has shocked investigators and community members alike as doctors continue treating the toddler, who was placed in a medically induced coma after arriving at a children’s hospital with severe injuries.
According to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, Jessica Wilson, 29, has been charged with aggravated child abuse and an additional count of child abuse related to incidents that allegedly occurred days apart.
Emergency Crews Respond to Unconscious Child
Deputies and paramedics were dispatched to a Gainesville apartment complex shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday after receiving reports of a child who was unconscious and not breathing.
When first responders arrived, they found the young girl in critical condition.
A deputy reportedly carried the child to an awaiting ambulance, where paramedics immediately began lifesaving efforts before transporting her to a nearby children’s hospital.
Authorities noted that the child displayed significant bruising, prompting concerns about possible abuse.

Friend Allegedly Called 911 After Mother Refused
Investigators learned that Wilson and her daughter had reportedly been staying with a friend at the apartment for approximately two weeks.
According to deputies, Wilson woke the friend and informed her that the child was not breathing. The friend immediately began performing CPR and urged Wilson to contact emergency services.
However, investigators allege that Wilson refused.
“Wilson refused, and after multiple pleas, the friend called 911 herself while continuing CPR,” authorities stated.
According to investigators, Wilson later admitted she did not want to call emergency services because she feared getting into trouble due to the child’s injuries.
