About Us

Mission

Common Sense is published by students and Cedarburg High School to inform, persuade, entertain and provide a journalistic experience for students.

Who we are

Common Sense is the Cedarburg High School newspaper. CHS has a student enrollment of 1,119 students in grades 9-12. For eight years in a row, CHS has been recognized by the U.S. News & World Report on their annual list of “Best Schools” in the nation. In 2021, CHS ranked #1 in Ozaukee County, #2 in Wisconsin and #233 nationally of more than 18,000 schools.

Common Sense, an award-winning newspaper, has been a member of Northeastern Wisconsin Scholastic Press Association (NEWSPA) since 2000. NEWSPA has been serving high school students around Wisconsin since 1969.

Students enrolled in Journalism, an English elective class, may contribute to Common Sense, but the newspaper is an extracurricular activity. Any student may join the Common Sense.

Journalism teacher Heather Vande Sande has been the adviser of Common Sense since 2000.
