Washington, D.C. — Federal food safety officials are warning consumers to check their freezers after a recall was issued for thousands of pounds of frozen meatloaf meals distributed across several Midwestern states.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced that approximately 5,795 pounds of Power Plate Meals frozen meatloaf with garlic mashed potatoes are being recalled because of a labeling issue involving an undeclared allergen.
While no illnesses have been reported, officials are concerned that some of the products may still be stored in consumers’ homes.
Which Products Are Being Recalled?
According to FSIS, the recall affects specific packages of:
POWER PLATE MEALS MEATLOAF WITH GARLIC MASHED POTATOES
The recalled products were produced between June 25, 2025, and June 10, 2026, and were shipped to distributors in:
- Minnesota
- North Dakota
- South Dakota
Consumers should look for:
- 13.3-ounce vacuum-sealed plastic tray packages
- Label marked “POWER PLATE MEALS MEATLOAF WITH GARLIC MASHED POTATOES”
- Use By dates ranging from June 25, 2026, through June 10, 2027
- Establishment number “217SEND” inside the USDA inspection mark
Officials are encouraging consumers to carefully review product packaging and expiration dates to determine whether they may have purchased an affected item.
Why Was the Product Recalled?
FSIS said the recall was initiated because the products were found to be misbranded and contain an undeclared allergen.
Food allergens are among the leading causes of food recalls because individuals with allergies can experience serious or potentially life-threatening reactions when consuming products that are not properly labeled.
Federal regulations require manufacturers to clearly identify allergenic ingredients on packaging so consumers can make informed decisions and avoid exposure.
The agency did not report any confirmed adverse reactions connected to the recalled meals at the time the announcement was issued.
What Consumers Should Do
Even though no illnesses have been reported, food safety officials are advising consumers not to consume the affected products.
Anyone who purchased the recalled meals should either:
- Throw the product away, or
- Return it to the place of purchase
FSIS warned that some recalled products may remain in household freezers, making it important for consumers to check stored food items carefully.
Consumers are also encouraged to monitor recall announcements regularly, particularly for frozen products that may remain in storage for extended periods.
