Chandler, Arizona — What began as a frustrating trip home from the hospital quickly turned into an unforgettable family story after an Arizona couple welcomed their baby girl in the parking lot of a casino, just minutes after doctors determined it wasn’t yet time for delivery.
Regena and Frankie Felix had gone to the hospital expecting to meet their daughter, but after medical staff determined Regena’s labor was not progressing quickly enough, the couple was sent home.
They barely made it a few minutes down the road before everything changed.
Labor Took a Dramatic Turn on the Drive Home
According to the family, Regena’s water broke shortly after leaving the hospital, making it clear their daughter wasn’t willing to wait any longer.
Realizing they wouldn’t make it back to a medical facility in time, Frankie searched for the nearest safe, well-lit location where they could stop.
He pulled into the parking lot of Gila River Resorts & Casinos – SanTan Mountain, where the couple suddenly found themselves preparing for an emergency delivery inside their SUV.
Within moments, their baby was on the way.
Dad Faced a Life-Threatening Emergency During Delivery
As Frankie helped deliver the baby in the front seat, he noticed something was seriously wrong. The baby’s umbilical cord was wrapped around her neck, causing her to turn blue during the delivery.
Despite having no medical training in childbirth, Frankie immediately stepped in and carefully removed the cord before continuing the delivery.
His quick actions helped ensure his daughter was born safely. Reflecting on the intense experience, Frankie admitted he had no idea what he was doing when everything began.
“I didn’t [know what to do],” Frankie recalled.
He added:
“Not enough military training in the world prepared me to deliver a baby, and I just did.”
Baby Noa Arrives Safe and Healthy
After the dramatic delivery, the couple welcomed their daughter, Noa, who was safely born inside the family’s vehicle before emergency responders arrived.
Fortunately, the frightening ordeal ended with good news.
Noa has since returned home with her parents and received a clean bill of health from her pediatrician. Doctors say she is doing well following her unusual entrance into the world.
Doctor Praises Parents’ Quick Thinking
Medical professionals credited Regena and Frankie for remaining calm during an incredibly stressful situation and making quick decisions that helped keep their daughter safe.
According to the baby’s pediatrician, Noa has already shown plenty of personality.
The doctor described the newborn as “a feisty little thing,” while also praising her parents for how they handled the emergency birth.
Although the couple never expected to welcome their daughter in a casino parking lot, the unforgettable experience ended with both mother and baby healthy—a story the family is unlikely to forget.
