Los Angeles, California — A Los Angeles man has filed a lawsuit against the Los Angeles Dodgers, alleging he suffered serious injuries after a cell phone fell from the upper deck of Dodger Stadium and struck him in the head during a game last year. The complaint claims the incident left him with lasting cognitive problems and argues the team failed to take reasonable steps to protect spectators from falling objects.
Fan Says Falling Cell Phone Caused Lasting Injuries
According to the lawsuit, Wayne Alldredge was attending a Dodgers game on July 24, 2024, when he was seated in the stadium’s lower level beneath an upper deck seating section.
The complaint alleges that a cell phone suddenly fell from the railing above, striking him directly on the head.
Alldredge received stitches at Dodger Stadium before later seeking additional medical treatment at a hospital in Orange County, according to court filings.
The lawsuit states that his injuries have continued long after the incident, claiming he now experiences cognitive difficulties, memory problems, frequent headaches, and dizziness.
Lawsuit Accuses Dodgers of Negligence
Filed on July 13, the lawsuit accuses the Dodgers of negligence and premises liability, arguing the organization failed to maintain a reasonably safe environment for fans.
According to the complaint, the team should have installed protective netting, barriers, or screens in areas where objects could fall from upper seating levels into lower sections.
The lawsuit also alleges stadium personnel should have monitored fans more closely to prevent personal belongings, including cell phones, from being placed on railings where they could accidentally fall.
Alldredge contends these precautions could have prevented the incident and the injuries he says followed.
Plaintiff Seeks More Than $100,000
As part of the lawsuit, Alldredge is seeking at least $100,000 for past medical expenses, along with additional compensatory damages related to his injuries and their ongoing impact.
The Dodgers have not publicly addressed the allegations in court. A representative for the organization said the team does not comment on pending litigation.
The lawsuit will now proceed through the civil court process, where both sides are expected to present evidence regarding the incident and the stadium’s safety measures.
Another Negligence Lawsuit Already Targets Dodgers
The latest lawsuit comes only months after the Dodgers were named in another negligence and premises liability case involving an alleged fan injury at Dodger Stadium.
Earlier this year, Jennifer Wagner, a woman from North Carolina, sued the organization after claiming she was struck in the shoulder by an alcoholic BuzzBallz beverage during a game.
According to her lawsuit, the drink was allegedly “thrown, dropped, or otherwise propelled” from an elevated seating or standing area before hitting her.
Wagner said the impact caused pain, bruising, swelling, and limited use of her arm, disrupting a planned four-day family vacation to Los Angeles and Disneyland.
Her complaint also argues that the Dodgers should have anticipated the risks associated with serving alcoholic beverages in containers that could be thrown or accidentally fall into lower seating areas.
Stadium Safety Under Renewed Attention
While the two lawsuits involve different incidents, both raise questions about spectator safety inside large sports venues and the responsibility teams have to reduce foreseeable risks.
Neither case has resulted in a court ruling, and the allegations remain claims made in civil lawsuits.
As both legal proceedings continue, the Dodgers have not admitted any wrongdoing in either matter.
