Missouri Nurse Found Dead Weeks After Husband's Assault Conviction, Authorities Await Autopsy Results

New London, Missouri — Authorities are continuing to investigate the death of a Missouri nurse whose body was discovered inside her home, a case that has drawn public attention after court records revealed her husband, a licensed anesthesiologist, previously pleaded guilty in an unrelated assault case.

According to the Ralls County Sheriff’s Office, Alexandra “Allie” Hummel, 36, was found unresponsive on June 23 at her residence on Lone Cedar Trail in New London after deputies responded to a 911 call.

Officials have released few details about the circumstances surrounding her death, but investigators confirmed that the county coroner requested an autopsy as part of the ongoing investigation.

Authorities Await Autopsy Findings

Law enforcement has not publicly disclosed what caused Hummel’s death or whether investigators suspect foul play.

Officials say the autopsy is expected to help determine the cause and manner of death.

At this stage, authorities have not announced any arrests or criminal charges related to the case, and investigators continue gathering evidence before reaching any conclusions.

The Ralls County Sheriff’s Office has not released additional information while the investigation remains active.

Husband Previously Pleaded Guilty in Separate Assault Case

Public court records show that Dr. Andrew Hummel, a licensed Missouri anesthesiologist and Alexandra Hummel’s husband, pleaded guilty in March 2026 to assaulting a woman in an unrelated criminal case.

According to court documents, he was initially arrested in July 2025 after being accused of strangling and striking a woman with whom he allegedly had “a continuing relationship of romantic nature.”

The assault case is separate from the investigation into Alexandra Hummel’s death.

Authorities have not accused Dr. Andrew Hummel of any crime or wrongdoing in connection with his wife’s death.

Investigation Remains Active

Alexandra Hummel would have celebrated her 37th birthday on July 7, just weeks after her death.

For now, investigators say the case remains under active review as they await autopsy findings and continue examining the circumstances that led to the 36-year-old nurse being found unresponsive inside her home.

Authorities have urged the public not to speculate while the investigation is ongoing.

Because the investigation has not been completed, the cause of Alexandra Hummel’s death has not yet been determined, and no one has been charged in connection with the case.
