Port Canaveral, Florida — A cruise vacation allegedly turned into a chaotic confrontation after an intoxicated Ohio couple barged into another family’s cabin and attacked three people, including a 9-year-old child, according to authorities.
Gannon Jacox, 29, and his girlfriend, Brooklyn Hicks, 28, were arrested Saturday evening at Port Canaveral after the cruise ship returned to the Florida port.
Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said the couple had apparently been arguing loudly after drinking alcohol when one of the victims asked them to quiet down.
Instead of ending the disturbance, authorities say the request triggered a confrontation outside the family’s cabin.
Couple Allegedly Forced Their Way Inside Cabin
According to the sheriff, the couple confronted the victim and allegedly got directly into the person’s face outside the cabin door. The situation reportedly escalated when the two passengers pushed their way into the family’s room.
Once inside, Jacox allegedly began attacking two adults and their 9-year-old child. Sheriff Ivey said Jacox allegedly struck all three family members, including the child, while Hicks allegedly joined the fight by throwing punches.
The sheriff described the incident as a chaotic brawl that apparently began after the couple had consumed alcohol. Despite the violence, authorities said none of the family members suffered serious injuries.
Suspect Also Suffers Eye Injury During Fight
Jacox was reportedly injured around his eye during the confrontation. Sheriff Ivey said the injury could have been caused by one of the victims or potentially by “friendly fire” from Hicks while she was throwing punches.
The sheriff used the incident to criticize the alleged behavior of the couple, saying alcohol appeared to play a major role in the confrontation.
He later wrote that the weekend’s cruise trouble had little to do with the summer heat and instead pointed toward alcohol and poor judgment.
Ohio Couple Faces Multiple Criminal Charges
After the cruise returned to Port Canaveral, authorities arrested both suspects. Jacox was charged with burglary with battery and child abuse without great bodily harm, according to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.
Hicks was charged with burglary with battery and battery-touch or strike.
Both suspects were booked into the Brevard County Jail. Online jail records listed Jacox with a $31,000 bond, while Hicks was being held on a $6,000 bond.
The allegations have not been proven in court, and both defendants are entitled to the presumption of innocence as their cases proceed.
Which Cruise Ship Was Involved?
The exact cruise ship involved in the alleged attack remained unclear.
Four cruise ships were scheduled to dock at Port Canaveral on Saturday, August 15, 2026, including Royal Caribbean’s Adventure of the Seas, Disney Treasure, Carnival Cruise Line’s Mardi Gras and Carnival Freedom.
Authorities did not publicly identify which vessel the suspects and family were traveling on.
The lack of a confirmed ship name leaves several details of the incident unanswered, including where exactly on the vessel the confrontation began and what happened immediately before the couple allegedly entered the family’s cabin.
Sheriff Issues Warning After Cruise Arrests
Following the arrests, Sheriff Ivey used the incident as a broader warning to passengers who may become disruptive or violent while drinking on vacation.
He said people who cannot handle their alcohol should not be out in public causing disturbances or injuring others, particularly children.
The sheriff also delivered a blunt message to anyone who breaks the law in Brevard County, joking that the local jail would have a reservation waiting for them.
The incident serves as another reminder that what begins as a seemingly minor disagreement can quickly escalate when alcohol and aggressive behavior become involved.
For the family involved, what should have been a relaxing cruise reportedly ended with an alleged cabin invasion, a physical fight and a child becoming one of the people caught in the middle.
