Philadelphia, Pennsylvania — A federal investigation into alleged threats against the White House took an unexpected turn after FBI agents executing a search warrant reportedly discovered two young children living in what authorities described as severely unsanitary conditions inside a Philadelphia home.
According to investigators, the residence was filled with garbage, animal waste and dozens of animals, while the children were allegedly found with bruises and numerous bug bites. The discovery led to criminal charges against the two adults living in the home.
FBI Search Reveals Allegedly Unsafe Living Conditions
Federal agents arrived at the home Tuesday to execute a search warrant connected to an investigation into alleged terroristic threats against the White House.
Inside the residence, agents encountered 43-year-old Thomas Bach and 44-year-old Megan Bach, along with an 8-month-old baby girl and a 5-year-old girl.
According to authorities, the home had no running water and was reportedly cluttered with garbage throughout the property. Officials also said the residence was infested with fleas and contained animal feces.
Because of the conditions inside the home, federal agents reportedly requested assistance from a hazardous materials team.
Neighbor Describes Strong Odor Coming From Home
Neighbors said they had long noticed an overwhelming odor coming from the property. One nearby resident told local media she had no idea children were living inside the house.
Another neighbor, Vex Holmquist, described the smell surrounding the property.
“Horrible stench every time you walked… I could smell it from across the street.”
Authorities later confirmed that animal control removed approximately 40 live cats and one dog from the residence before the property was boarded up.
Children Taken to Hospital for Evaluation
Officials said the 5-year-old girl and 8-month-old infant were transported to a hospital for medical evaluation after being removed from the home.
According to investigators, the children were found with bruises and bug bites, although authorities have not released additional information regarding their medical conditions.
After receiving medical attention, both children were placed into the care of the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services. Officials have not publicly disclosed how long the children had allegedly been living under those conditions.
Multiple Charges Filed as Investigation Continues
Thomas Bach and Megan Bach were taken into custody at the scene and now face charges of endangering the welfare of a child and recklessly endangering another person, according to authorities.
In addition, Thomas Bach faces several other charges, including conspiracy, possession of an instrument of crime with intent, and making, repairing, selling, or possessing an offensive weapon.
Federal agents were also seen removing multiple firearms, including a rifle, from the residence during the search.
Thomas Bach is scheduled to appear in court on July 20.
Authorities emphasized that the federal investigation into the alleged threats against the White House remains ongoing, while state officials continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the children’s living conditions.
The allegations described in the criminal charges have not been proven in court, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
