Current forecasts indicate a 99% probability that total July rainfall will exceed 3 inches, while there is approximately a 51% chance that precipitation will surpass 4 inches by the end of the month.
Although those projections are not official weather forecasts, they reflect growing confidence that additional rainfall is likely as several storm systems move through the Midwest.

The rainfall outlook comes as a broader stretch of severe weather continues across parts of the Upper Midwest and Northeast.
Multiple rounds of storms have already produced tornado warnings, large hail and damaging wind gusts in several states, and forecasters say additional storms could develop in the days ahead.
Depending on how these systems evolve, Chicago could receive enough rainfall to push monthly totals well beyond current levels.
