Texas Hill Country — As dangerous flooding continues to threaten communities across the Texas Hill Country, local leaders are already focusing on helping families recover by launching a new disaster relief fund aimed at supporting those impacted by the ongoing emergency.
The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country announced the creation of the Texas Hill Country Flood Relief Fund, giving residents and supporters across Texas and beyond a centralized way to provide assistance as recovery efforts begin.
The announcement comes while emergency crews continue responding to life-threatening flooding across the region, with officials emphasizing that recovery cannot wait until floodwaters completely recede.
Relief Fund Created to Help Flood Victims Recover
Community leaders say the new relief fund is designed to provide financial support to individuals, families and communities affected by the latest flooding disaster.
The organization has experience leading large-scale recovery efforts. Following the Guadalupe River flooding around the Fourth of July last year, the foundation raised more than $150 million to help residents rebuild their homes and recover from the devastating disaster.
Now, officials say they are taking action immediately rather than waiting for the emergency to end before organizing relief efforts.
Community Still Carrying Last Year’s Heartbreak
Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country CEO Austin Dickson said the latest flooding has been emotionally difficult for many residents who are still recovering from last year’s disaster.
“It would be accurate to say it’s definitely a gut punch that it’s put us back on our heels a little bit,” Dickson said. “The community is reeling. The community is sad not only for what has been damaged or destroyed or lost this year, but also triggering memories of what happened a year ago and how much loss and grief, that the community and people around Texas have carried all year.”
Dickson said the new flooding has reopened painful memories, but community members remain committed to helping one another through another challenging recovery.
Financial Donations Are the Biggest Need
As people across Texas look for ways to help, Dickson said monetary donations remain the safest and most effective form of assistance during a disaster.
He explained that financial contributions allow relief organizations to respond quickly as community needs change over time.
“The easiest, best, safest, and most helpful thing that anyone can do, always, in a disaster, and especially now, is to make an online donation,” Dickson said. “We’ve created the Texas Hill Country Flood Relief Fund here at the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country as a place for people to donate.”
Officials say the fund will help support both immediate relief efforts and the longer recovery process for affected families.
Hope Remains Despite Ongoing Challenges
Although the latest flooding has brought renewed hardship, Dickson expressed confidence that the community will once again come together to rebuild.
Drawing on lessons learned from last year’s recovery, he said healing takes time but is strengthened through collective support.
“Recovery is a hopeful exercise that is healing and is restoring to individuals, to households, and communities. And it’s also a group project.”
He added that witnessing resilience over the past year gives him confidence that the region will overcome the current disaster as well.
“We’re not going to rebuild what we lost—we’re going to rebuild what comes next. And that’s exciting.”
As dangerous flooding continues across the Texas Hill Country, officials encourage those who want to help to support trusted relief organizations so affected families can begin rebuilding their lives as soon as conditions allow.
