Stevens Point, Wisconsin — A Wisconsin woman is facing multiple felony charges after investigators say she admitted to repeatedly poisoning her ex-husband by secretly putting Visine eye drops into his beverages and even attempting to contaminate his CPAP machine.
According to police, Jessica Meis, 37, was arrested following an investigation that began after her ex-husband reported growing concerns that someone had been deliberately making him ill. Authorities allege the suspected poisoning had been occurring for years, leaving the man with repeated medical emergencies and unexplained health problems.
Health Problems Raised Suspicions Over Several Years
According to investigators, the man told police he had been experiencing extreme fatigue, dizziness, headaches, and unusually long periods of sleep since 2021.
Police said the incidents became more frequent around the time the couple finalized their divorce in June 2025. Although they separated, the former spouses continued living in the same Stevens Point home for a period before Meis moved to nearby Plover.
Investigators said the man was hospitalized four times between July and September 2025 because of unexplained medical issues. Even after Meis moved out, she frequently returned to the home because the former couple shared custody of their three children.
Authorities said his health problems continued into 2026, including repeated episodes of dangerously low blood pressure.
Hidden Camera Allegedly Captured Key Evidence
After becoming convinced someone was tampering with his drinks, the man installed a hidden camera in his kitchen on July 14.
Police said footage recorded days later allegedly showed Meis removing a small container from her pocket and pouring its contents into a black water bottle before returning it to its original location.
Investigators also reviewed another recording in which they believe Meis handled a bottle of Propel water while concealing her actions from others in the room.
One beverage was later turned over to investigators as evidence after it had been consumed by another person.
Police Say Woman Admitted Poisoning Ex-Husband
During an interview with investigators, police said Meis initially claimed she had been adding salt or saline solution to help her ex-husband’s blood pressure.
However, when confronted with the surveillance footage, investigators allege she admitted that the substance was actually Visine eye drops.
According to the criminal complaint, Meis first claimed she had done it only a few times before later admitting she had poisoned his drinks “many times.”
Police said she allegedly admitted putting Visine into Monster Energy drinks, Propel water, Bubbler beverages, and even an old-fashioned cocktail mix.
Investigators also allege Meis admitted trying to pour Visine into her ex-husband’s CPAP machine, although she reportedly told police she did not believe that attempt worked.
Alleged Motive Revealed During Interview
According to investigators, Meis told police she wanted to make her ex-husband “sick” so that “he would let [her] take care of him” and “he would need her.”
Police also asked whether she was concerned that one of the couple’s children could accidentally consume the contaminated drinks.
According to the complaint, Meis responded that “they don’t drink these things.” Investigators further stated that she showed no remorse during the interview.
Meis has been charged with aggravated battery with a domestic violence modifier, along with two counts of placing foreign objects in edibles. She is being held in the Portage County Jail on a $100,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 27.
The allegations remain accusations, and the charges against Meis have not been proven in court.
