EL MONTE, California — Family members have identified the 15-year-old boy who was fatally stabbed during a violent incident in El Monte that also left two other people injured, as investigators continue searching for answers and those responsible.
The victim, Aziel Zacapala, was remembered by loved ones as a talented student and athlete at Rosemead High School, whose life was tragically cut short. Authorities say the stabbing occurred Friday afternoon, and as of Sunday evening, no arrests had been made while the investigation remained active.
Family Remembers Promising Teenager
Relatives identified the victim as 15-year-old Aziel Zacapala, describing him as a bright young student with a promising future both academically and athletically.
According to family members, Aziel attended Rosemead High School, where he was known for his dedication to school and sports. His unexpected death has left family, friends, classmates and the local community mourning the loss of a teenager whose life ended far too soon.

Stabbing Occurred Friday Afternoon

The sheriff’s department is assisting the El Monte Police Department with the investigation into the deadly attack.
Authorities said Aziel was transported to a nearby hospital following the stabbing, where he later died from his injuries.

According to the witness, he attempted to tell those involved to stop fighting before returning inside his home. When he came back outside later, he saw a large police presence in the area.
Authorities have not confirmed whether the altercation witnessed by the neighbor is directly connected to the fatal stabbing, and investigators continue working to establish a timeline of events.

As of Sunday night, authorities said no arrests had been made in connection with the case.
