Los Angeles, California — As much of the western United States begins to emerge from an intense heat wave, Los Angeles is enjoying an unusually cool stretch of weather thanks to a steady flow of marine air moving inland from the Pacific Ocean.
While several inland California cities continue to experience hot conditions, forecasters say the City of Angels will remain noticeably cooler through the end of June, offering residents and visitors a welcome break from the summer heat.
The refreshing pattern comes after several days of warmer and more humid conditions across Southern California.
Marine Air Brings Welcome Relief
According to forecasters, a persistent onshore weather pattern is drawing cool air from the Pacific Ocean into Los Angeles, helping suppress daytime temperatures.
The marine layer has also produced widespread low clouds and morning fog, a familiar seasonal pattern commonly referred to as “June Gloom.”
These conditions have prevented temperatures from climbing to the levels typically associated with Southern California summers.
Instead of extreme heat, much of coastal Los Angeles is expected to enjoy comfortable daytime weather.
Coastal Temperatures Stay Below Average
Forecasts call for high temperatures in the low to mid-70s across many coastal neighborhoods. Those readings are several degrees below what is normally expected during the final weeks of June.
Cloud cover is expected to linger during the morning hours before gradually clearing in parts of the region later in the day.
The combination of ocean breezes and mild temperatures is creating favorable conditions for outdoor activities despite the beginning of the summer season.
Inland Areas Still Warmer
Although Los Angeles is seeing cooler weather, inland portions of California remain significantly warmer. Communities farther from the coast, including areas such as Fresno, are expected to reach the upper 90s.
Even so, meteorologists note that inland temperatures are still running below typical late-June averages as the broader Western heat wave weakens.
Across much of the Los Angeles metropolitan area away from the immediate coastline, afternoon highs are forecast to reach the 80s, offering a much more comfortable environment than recent days.
Cooling Trend Expected to Continue
Weather officials say the cooler pattern is expected to remain in place through the weekend and possibly into the final days of June.
The continued onshore flow should help maintain below-average temperatures while allowing the marine layer to remain a regular feature during the morning hours.
For residents who have been waiting for relief from recent warmth, the extended forecast suggests no immediate return to extreme heat.

Instead, Southern California appears set to enjoy several more days of mild temperatures before typical summer conditions gradually return.
Summer Begins With Comfortable Conditions
While much of the western U.S. continues monitoring heat-related weather, Los Angeles is benefiting from a different pattern altogether.
The return of June Gloom serves as a reminder that coastal Southern California often experiences cooler weather at the start of summer, even while inland communities endure much hotter conditions.
For now, beachgoers, commuters, and outdoor enthusiasts can expect pleasant afternoons, cool ocean breezes, and temperatures well below the seasonal norm as June comes to a close.
