Huntington Beach, California — A powerful piece of American history made its way through Southern California this week as an authentic steel beam recovered from the World Trade Center arrived in Huntington Beach during a nationwide tribute honoring the victims and heroes of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The historic artifact is traveling across the United States as part of the Steel Across America campaign, giving communities an opportunity to reflect on one of the nation’s most defining moments while paying tribute to the courage and sacrifice displayed in its aftermath.
Historic Steel Beam Escorted Into Huntington Beach
The Huntington Beach Police Department announced that officers had the privilege of escorting the convoy carrying the World Trade Center steel through the city.
The department provided both aerial and ground support to ensure the artifact’s safe arrival.
In a statement shared on social media, officials described the visit as a meaningful reminder of the unity that followed the attacks more than two decades ago.
“Steel Across America made its way to Huntington Beach, bringing with it a powerful reminder of the sacrifice, courage, and unity that emerged from September 11, 2001.”
Police added that the department was honored to participate in the escort using both its HB-1 helicopter and Motor Unit.
The event attracted attention from community members as the convoy passed through the city carrying a physical piece of American history.
Steel Across America Honors 9/11 Victims and Heroes
The Steel Across America campaign is organized by the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring military members, first responders, and those affected by the September 11 attacks.
The campaign is transporting an authentic steel beam recovered from the World Trade Center to communities across the country between May and September 2026.
Organizers say the goal is to preserve the memory of those who lost their lives while reminding younger generations of the sacrifices made on that historic day.
Each stop provides local communities with an opportunity to reflect on the lasting impact of the attacks and recognize the bravery of first responders.
Southern California Tour Continues
Following its stop in Huntington Beach, the steel beam is scheduled to appear at several additional locations throughout Southern California.
A public event is planned for Sunday at the West Los Angeles VA Campus, where visitors will have the opportunity to view the artifact and participate in commemorative activities.
The tour will then continue with invitation-only events at the Frank Hotchkin Memorial Training Center in Los Angeles and in Simi Valley later in the week.
Those events are expected to bring together first responders, veterans, public officials, and invited guests to honor the legacy of September 11.
A Symbol of Resilience and National Unity
More than two decades after the attacks, artifacts recovered from the World Trade Center continue to serve as powerful reminders of the lives lost and the resilience shown by communities across the nation.
The Steel Across America campaign aims to ensure those memories remain alive while inspiring future generations to remember the courage displayed by first responders and ordinary Americans during one of the country’s darkest days.
As the steel beam continues its journey across the United States, organizers hope each stop strengthens the message of remembrance, service, and national unity.
