Washington, D.C. — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced the recall of two breakfast burrito products after discovering they may contain undeclared soy, posing a potential health risk for people with soy allergies.
According to the recall notice, Fresh & Ready Foods LLC voluntarily recalled a limited number of Sprig & Sprout Spicy Breakfast Burritos and Fresh and Ready Spicy Breakfast Burritos after a production error resulted in the accidental inclusion of sausage in products labeled as vegetarian.
Why the Breakfast Burritos Are Being Recalled
The FDA said the burritos may contain sausage, which introduced soy into the products without it being listed on the label.
For individuals with a soy allergy or severe sensitivity, consuming the recalled products could trigger a serious or potentially life-threatening allergic reaction.
In addition, consumers who avoid meat for dietary, religious or personal reasons are also advised not to consume the recalled burritos, as the products may contain sausage despite being labeled as vegetarian.
Fortunately, no illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported in connection with the recall so far.
Eight States Affected by the Recall
The recalled breakfast burritos were distributed through grab-and-go markets and vending machines in the following states:
- Alabama
- Georgia
- Kentucky
- North Carolina
- South Carolina
- Tennessee
- Virginia
- West Virginia
The products were manufactured at Fresh & Ready Foods’ facility in Charlotte, North Carolina, between July 9 and July 12, 2026.
The company said no other products manufactured at the Charlotte facility are affected, and the recall does not impact other Fresh & Ready Foods products.
