Dallas, Texas — A longtime restaurant on one of Dallas’ best-known dining streets has closed its doors, marking the end of a more than 35-year run for Simply Fondue.
The restaurant, located in the Lowest Greenville neighborhood, first opened in 1990 and became part of the area’s dining scene for decades. Its closure was first reported by The Dallas Morning News.
The restaurant’s departure leaves another longtime business space vacant along Greenville Avenue as the neighborhood continues to evolve.
Restaurant Served Fondue for More Than Three Decades
Simply Fondue built its identity around a communal dining experience centered on hot pots and dipping foods.
Customers could choose from meats, vegetables, fruits and breads, which were served alongside hot pots containing cheese or other liquids for dipping.
That format helped make the restaurant a distinctive part of the Lowest Greenville dining landscape.
After opening in 1990, Simply Fondue remained at the Greenville Avenue location for more than three decades, making its closure particularly notable for longtime Dallas residents who remember the restaurant from earlier eras of the neighborhood.
Greenville Avenue Location Is Now Vacant
The restaurant occupied the property at 2108 Greenville Ave., which is now vacant following the closure.
Madison Partners, the landlord for the property, confirmed that Simply Fondue had recently shut down. Jon Hetzel, managing partner at Madison Partners, said the restaurant closed a few weeks ago.
The landlord acknowledged the restaurant’s long connection to the neighborhood and its role in the area’s history.
“Simply Fondue has been part of the Lowest Greenville story for a long time, and we’re grateful for their prior role in the neighborhood,” Hetzel said in a statement.
Restaurant Did Not Comment on Closure
The reason behind Simply Fondue’s closure was not immediately clear from the information available. The restaurant did not respond to a request for comment before publication, leaving questions about what ultimately led to the decision to close after such a long run.
For now, the vacant storefront represents the latest change for a neighborhood that has experienced significant transformation over the years.
Lowest Greenville has become a popular destination for restaurants, bars, shops and other businesses, with longtime establishments sharing the area with newer concepts.
The closure of Simply Fondue therefore marks more than just the departure of another restaurant. For customers who visited the location over the years, it represents the loss of a familiar gathering place that had been part of Dallas’ dining scene since the early 1990s.
A Longtime Dallas Dining Chapter Comes to an End
Simply Fondue’s 35-plus years on Greenville Avenue gave it an unusually long presence in a restaurant industry where businesses frequently come and go.
From its opening in 1990 through its recent closure, the restaurant remained associated with the Lowest Greenville neighborhood and its evolving food scene.
What will eventually replace the former Simply Fondue space at 2108 Greenville Ave. remains to be seen.
For now, the empty location serves as a reminder of how much Dallas’ restaurant landscape can change — even for establishments that have been neighborhood fixtures for generations.
After more than three decades of serving fondue and shared meals, Simply Fondue’s Dallas chapter has officially come to an end.
