Over 30 Injured After Maryland Transit Bus Crashes Into Cars and Building Near Baltimore

Pikesville, Maryland — More than 30 people were injured Wednesday after a Maryland Transit Administration bus crashed into multiple vehicles before slamming into a building in Pikesville, just outside Baltimore, prompting a large emergency response and the declaration of a mass casualty incident.

First responders rushed to the scene along Reisterstown Road, where the crash involved a public transit bus, several civilian vehicles and a commercial building.

Authorities said the incident left dozens of people hurt and required firefighters, paramedics and law enforcement officers to coordinate a large-scale rescue operation.

Bus Crashed Into Multiple Vehicles Before Striking Building

According to Baltimore County officials, the Maryland Transit Administration bus collided with numerous civilian vehicles before crashing into a nearby building.

Officials said one of the vehicles overturned during the collision, adding to the complexity of the emergency response.

Emergency crews immediately secured the area while assessing injured passengers, motorists and others affected by the crash.

A building engineer was also called to inspect the structure after the impact to determine whether it remained safe. Authorities have not yet released details about what caused the bus to leave the roadway or how the collision unfolded.

Emergency Crews Rescue Trapped Victims

Firefighters worked to free victims trapped inside damaged vehicles following the crash. Officials confirmed that one person trapped inside the bus was rescued by emergency crews.

Another individual who became trapped inside a passenger vehicle was also successfully extricated and taken for medical treatment.

Authorities said one patient suffered critical injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, while many others were treated for injuries ranging from minor to serious.

The full extent of injuries suffered by the remaining victims has not yet been released.

Mass Casualty Incident Declared

Because of the large number of people injured, emergency officials activated a second mass casualty incident alarm to bring additional personnel and medical resources to the scene.

The designation allows multiple emergency agencies to coordinate patient treatment, transportation and traffic management during major incidents involving numerous casualties.

Responding crews remained at the scene for several hours as they cared for victims, cleared damaged vehicles and investigated the crash.

Governor Wes Moore Responds

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore said state officials were closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with local agencies.

“Dawn and I are keeping everyone impacted in our hearts and prayers. We are deeply grateful for our first responders who acted with speed and skill to ensure the safety of our neighbors,” Moore wrote on X. “We’ve been in close coordination with local officials to provide any support needed on the ground.”
