16 Children Found Living in 'Horrific' Ohio Home as Four Adults Face Child Endangerment Charges

Hamden, Ohio — Four people are facing multiple felony charges after investigators discovered 16 children living inside what authorities described as a house with “horrific” conditions during the execution of a search warrant in southern Ohio.

The disturbing discovery was made Tuesday in the small village of Hamden, where state and local investigators entered a home and found children ranging from toddlers to teenagers living inside the residence.

Officials say the investigation remains ongoing as the children receive medical evaluations and are placed in safe environments.

Authorities Find 16 Children Inside Home

According to officials, investigators with the Vinton County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation executed a search warrant at a residence on the 100 block of Ohmer Street.

Inside the home, authorities located 16 children between the ages of 18 months and 18 years. Property records indicate the one-story house, originally built in 1900, contained five rooms and a single bathroom.

Officials have not released details explaining what prompted the investigation or how long the children had been living at the residence.

Four Adults Charged With Child Endangerment

Following the search, authorities arrested four individuals:

  • Gary Siders Jr.
  • Christina Siders
  • Elizabeth Siders
  • Gary Siders Sr.

Each defendant has been charged with 16 counts of second-degree felony child endangerment.

Investigators allege the children were subjected to conditions resulting in serious physical harm. Because the investigation remains active, officials declined to publicly describe the specific conditions found inside the home.

However, authorities repeatedly emphasized the severity of what investigators encountered.

Officials Describe Scene as ‘Horrific’

During a news conference, Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost described the situation as one of the most disturbing cases investigators have encountered.

“This is pure evil.”

He added:

“This probably was the worst scene that I’ve been in, as far as the deplorable conditions.”

Authorities also stated that the alleged child endangerment involved serious physical harm.

The Vinton County Sheriff’s Office said its immediate priority has been ensuring the children receive appropriate medical care and safe placement.

“The scene is horrific, and these are horrific allegations.”

Officials noted that the four defendants are not originally from Vinton County.

Neighbors Say They Rarely Saw Children

Residents living near the property expressed shock following the arrests. Several neighbors told local media they were unaware so many children were living inside the home.

Some also reported hearing there were numerous animals on the property.

Neighbor Larry Brown said he frequently travels through the area but never realized children were living there.

“I come up down through here all the time and I’ve never seen a kid out here.”

Investigation Continues

Authorities said all 16 children are currently receiving medical evaluations while child welfare officials work to determine appropriate placements.

Investigators continue gathering evidence and have not ruled out the possibility of additional charges as the case progresses.

Officials also clarified that, despite online speculation, the investigation is not being treated as a human trafficking case.

As investigators continue examining the circumstances surrounding the children’s living conditions, authorities say protecting the victims remains their highest priority.
