United States — Health officials are continuing to investigate a widespread cyclosporiasis outbreak that has sickened thousands of people across the country, with a major lettuce supplier emerging as a potential source of contamination.
According to investigators, Taylor Farms, which supplies shredded iceberg lettuce to Taco Bell, has been identified as a possible source in the ongoing investigation. However, public health officials have not confirmed that the company’s products are responsible for the outbreak, and the investigation remains active.
Nearly 7,000 Cases Reported Across 34 States
The outbreak has resulted in nearly 7,000 reported cases across 34 U.S. states since May, making it one of the largest cyclosporiasis outbreaks reported in recent years.
Health officials say Michigan and New York have experienced the highest number of illnesses.
In Michigan alone, authorities have reported more than 4,300 cases, with approximately 100 people requiring hospitalization as a result of the illness.
