Chattanooga, Tennessee — A missing 22-year-old Tennessee woman was found dead in the parking lot of a Chattanooga motel, and investigators say surveillance footage captured a disturbing sequence of events that has led to the arrest of a 40-year-old man.
According to Chattanooga police, Elysia Kinsella was discovered dead on July 8 outside a motel in the 100 block of Patten Chapel Road. The case remains under investigation as authorities work to determine exactly how she died.
Police say Kinsella had been reported missing the previous week.
Surveillance Video Allegedly Captured Body Being Moved
According to a police affidavit, officers responding to the scene reviewed surveillance footage from the motel.
Investigators allege the video shows Donte Taylor, 40, arriving at the property in a Ford Crown Victoria shortly before the woman’s body was discovered.
Police say Taylor was later seen walking toward the motel carrying what appeared to be a body wrapped in blankets.
According to investigators, the footage allegedly shows him dragging the body down a staircase before attempting several times to place it inside the trunk of his vehicle.
When those attempts were unsuccessful, police say he left the body in the parking lot.
Police Say Vehicle Then Ran Over Body
According to the affidavit, Taylor allegedly got back into his vehicle after leaving the body on the ground.
Investigators say surveillance footage shows him turning the vehicle around before driving over the victim’s body, dragging it several feet across the parking lot and partially uncovering it.
Police later located Taylor and took him into custody the same day.
Authorities also allege surveillance cameras captured him cleaning the rear bumper of his vehicle with what appeared to be a cleaning solution while wiping away suspected blood or bodily fluids.
Suspect Allegedly Made Statements to Investigators
According to the affidavit, Taylor admitted traveling to the motel and dragging the woman’s body from a room into the parking lot.
Police also allege he told investigators he “remembered feeling the bumps when he ran over her body.”
Investigators have not publicly disclosed Taylor’s relationship, if any, to Kinsella. The allegations contained in the affidavit represent investigators’ account of the case and have not been tested in court.
Cause of Death Still Unknown
Authorities emphasize that Elysia Kinsella’s cause of death has not yet been determined. At this time, Taylor has been charged with abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence.
Police have not announced homicide charges, and investigators continue working to determine how and when Kinsella died.
Taylor’s next scheduled court appearance is August 11, according to local court records.
Meanwhile, detectives continue asking anyone with information about Kinsella’s disappearance or death to contact the Chattanooga Police Department as the investigation remains active.
Because the investigation is ongoing, authorities have not released additional details regarding the circumstances leading to Kinsella’s death.
