Minneapolis, Minnesota — Police are investigating after a third body was discovered somewhere in the city within just three days, adding to a string of unexplained deaths that has raised questions about whether the cases could be connected.
The latest discovery was reportedly made near the city’s Stone Arch Bridge, where the University of Minnesota Police Department found a body. Authorities have not publicly released details about the person’s identity or explained what may have led to the death.
At this point, investigators have not indicated that the three deaths are related.
Body Found Near Stone Arch Bridge
The University of Minnesota Police Department discovered the latest body near the Stone Arch Bridge. Officials have not revealed the circumstances surrounding the death, leaving questions about when the person died and what happened before the body was discovered.
The location is near the Mississippi River and is one of Minneapolis’ well-known areas, making the discovery particularly concerning for people familiar with the area.
Investigators will likely need to determine the person’s identity, establish a cause and manner of death, and determine whether there is any evidence suggesting criminal activity.
First Body Found Saturday Near East River Flats
The first of the three discoveries occurred Saturday at approximately 6 p.m., when a woman was found in a wooded area near East River Flats Park, close to the Mississippi River.
Authorities identified the woman as Karen Lynn Sognesand, 56, of Maple Grove, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune.
An obituary for Sognesand described her as a loving family member and friend who had died unexpectedly. It also referenced her struggles with mental health and the loss of her father, describing the circumstances as overwhelming for her.
The information released publicly so far does not establish whether her death was connected to either of the other two cases.
Second Body Discovered Near Bde Maka Ska
The second discovery happened Sunday at about 11:30 a.m., when a body was found near the shoreline of Bde Maka Ska Lake. The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board said the body was discovered in a severe state of decomposition.
Because of the condition of the remains, determining the person’s identity and cause of death could require additional investigation and forensic examination. Officials have not indicated that the second death was the result of a crime.
Police Have Not Linked the Three Deaths
The discovery of three bodies in Minneapolis over three consecutive days has naturally prompted questions about whether the cases share a common connection.
However, there is currently no public evidence establishing that the deaths are linked.
Investigators will have to examine the circumstances surrounding each discovery separately, including the locations, identities of the deceased, medical histories where appropriate, and any available evidence.
The latest case near Stone Arch Bridge remains under investigation, and additional information could emerge as authorities work to determine what happened.
For now, officials have not announced a suspect or described the three incidents as part of a single criminal investigation.
