United States – A nationwide hair product recall is prompting consumers and professional stylists to check their bathroom cabinets and salon shelves after Henkel Corporation warned that certain cans of Schwarzkopf Professional Osis Grip Mousse could pose an explosion hazard.
The voluntary recall was announced by Henkel Corporation and published by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on August 11. The company said a packaging defect could cause some pressurized containers to leak, potentially creating a dangerous situation.
Which Hair Mousse Is Being Recalled?
The affected product is Schwarzkopf Professional Osis Grip Mousse, 6.76 fluid ounces/200 ml, packaged in aluminum cans.
According to the recall notice, a problem with the packaging could allow the mousse to leak while the container remains under pressure. Henkel warned that this defect could potentially result in an explosion.
The product was distributed through 21 distributors across Alaska, Arizona, California, Florida, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas and Washington.
The mousse was also sold directly to consumers and professional hair stylists.
25 Batch Codes Are Included
Not every can of Schwarzkopf Professional Osis Grip Mousse is affected.
Henkel said the recall applies specifically to 25 batch codes, which can be found on the back of the container. Consumers should compare the code on their can with the following list:

Consumers should carefully check the characters because some of the codes contain letters and numbers that can look similar.
Other Schwarzkopf Products Are Not Affected
Henkel emphasized that no other company products are included in this recall.
That also means Schwarzkopf Professional Osis Grip cans carrying batch codes that do not appear on the 25-code recall list are not affected by this particular announcement.
Consumers who are unsure whether their product is included should verify the batch code before using the can.
Recall Followed Customer and Salon Reports
Henkel said it initiated the recall after receiving one customer complaint and two reports from salons involving the affected product.
According to the recall announcement, one customer reported bruising to the hand. No other injuries had been identified in connection with the recall at the time of the announcement.
The reports prompted the company to take action because the potential failure involves a pressurized container, creating a risk that goes beyond an ordinary cosmetic product defect.
What Consumers Should Do Now
Anyone who purchased an affected can is being encouraged to return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund.
Consumers and hair professionals should first check the batch code printed on the back of the can. If the code matches one of the 25 recalled lots, the product should be handled according to the company’s recall instructions rather than continuing normal use.
The recall serves as another reminder that products stored in bathrooms, salons and other everyday spaces can occasionally be affected by safety issues that are not immediately visible.
