Phoenix, Arizona — What began as a routine flight from Nebraska to Arizona turned into a life-or-death emergency for 77-year-old Patrick McGee, who suffered a heart attack while aboard a Southwest Airlines flight. Thanks to the quick actions of a fellow passenger, McGee survived—and now he is on a heartfelt mission to find the woman he believes helped save his life.
Medical Emergency Unfolded Mid-Flight
On Wednesday, July 29, McGee was traveling on a Southwest Airlines flight headed to Phoenix, Arizona, when he suddenly experienced a serious medical emergency.
According to McGee, he remembers chatting with the woman seated beside him shortly before everything went blank.
“Then the next thing I know, I’m in an ambulance,” he recalled while speaking about the frightening ordeal.
He later learned that he had suffered a heart attack during the flight, leaving him unconscious before the aircraft reached its destination.
Fellow Passenger Quickly Stepped In
After the medical emergency began, a woman traveling on the same flight reportedly performed CPR, providing lifesaving assistance until the aircraft landed.
Her quick response is believed to have played a crucial role in keeping McGee alive before emergency responders could take over.
Once the plane arrived in Phoenix, medical personnel transported McGee to a nearby hospital, where he received further treatment.
Although he continues recovering, McGee says he knows he may not be alive today without the actions of the passenger who came to his aid.
Grandfather Says He’s Thankful for More Time With Family
Reflecting on the incident, McGee became emotional as he spoke about what surviving means to him.
He said he feels incredibly grateful to still be with his wife, son, grandchildren, and brothers, crediting the woman who stepped in during the emergency.
“I owe this person a great deal,” McGee said.
He explained that because of her willingness to act without hesitation, he has been given more time with the people he loves most.
Search Begins for the Woman Who Saved Him
Now that he is recovering, McGee has one goal: finding the stranger who helped save his life. Unfortunately, because he lost consciousness during the emergency, he never learned her name.
He hopes that by sharing his story publicly, someone may recognize the woman or she may come forward herself.
McGee offered a heartfelt message directly to his unknown rescuer.
“If you’re out there, listening to me right now, thank you so very much.”
His words reflect a simple wish—not only to express his gratitude but also to personally thank the woman whose quick thinking made all the difference during one of the most frightening moments of his life.
While the search continues, McGee’s story serves as a reminder of how the actions of an ordinary stranger can have an extraordinary impact. In a matter of moments, one passenger’s willingness to help turned a medical emergency into a story of survival, hope, and gratitude.
