Florida Woman Stabbed Friend With Scissors After He Told Her Open Alcohol Wasn't Allowed in Their Uber

Miami, Florida — A late-night Uber ride in South Florida ended in violence after a 32-year-old woman allegedly stabbed her friend with a pair of scissors during an argument over drinking beer inside the vehicle, according to police.

Authorities identified the suspect as Lynn Marie Zamora, who was arrested Monday night following the incident. Investigators say the dispute began shortly after the pair entered an Uber outside the Best Western Plus Kendall Hotel & Suites in Miami.

The two were reportedly traveling to another friend’s home when the disagreement escalated into an alleged assault.

Argument Reportedly Began Over Drinking Beer in Uber

According to an arrest report, Zamora told the victim she wanted to drink a beer while riding in the Uber.

The man reportedly informed her that she was not allowed to consume alcohol inside the rideshare vehicle. Police say Zamora became increasingly upset after being told several times that drinking during the trip was not permitted.

Investigators allege that the disagreement quickly turned violent.

Police Say Woman Used Scissors During Alleged Attack

According to authorities, Zamora allegedly removed a pair of scissors from her purse and attacked the victim. Police say she stabbed him once in the left bicep and once in the left calf during the confrontation.

The Uber driver immediately pulled the vehicle over after the incident.

Investigators said the driver exited the vehicle, with the injured passenger following behind, before calling 911 for emergency assistance.

Police responded to the scene shortly afterward and arrested Zamora without further incident. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Uber Policy Prohibits Open Alcohol Containers

The alleged incident also highlights Uber’s long-standing community rules regarding alcohol inside rideshare vehicles.

According to the company’s guidelines, open containers of alcohol and illegal drugs are not permitted while using the Uber platform.

Riders are instructed not to bring open alcoholic beverages into vehicles during trips.

Authorities have not indicated whether the Uber driver sustained any injuries during the incident.

Court Appearance Reveals Prior Criminal History

Zamora was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, according to police.

During a court appearance conducted by video on Wednesday, prosecutors revealed that Zamora was already on probation following a previous conviction involving battery against a person 65 years of age or older.

Court proceedings also revealed she has several prior assault and battery convictions, along with a conviction for tampering with an electronic monitoring device.

Her attorney requested that she be transferred to a hospital, but the judge denied that request because the probation matter must first be addressed in a separate hearing.

The judge ordered Zamora to remain in custody on probable cause and set her bond at $7,500. She is scheduled to return to court on Aug. 12 in connection with the latest charges.

The allegations contained in the arrest report have not been proven in court. Zamora is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
