Hallandale Beach, Florida — What began as a routine stop for food turned into a terrifying ordeal for a Florida family after gunfire erupted in a McDonald’s parking lot, leaving a father and his 11-year-old daughter wounded while two younger children narrowly escaped injury.
Authorities say the family had no connection to the dispute and were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time when a targeted shooting unfolded outside the restaurant.
Police continue investigating the incident after arresting an 18-year-old suspect.
Family Caught in Targeted Shooting
According to the Hallandale Beach Police Department, officers responded to reports of a shooting at a McDonald’s located on West Hallandale Beach Boulevard at approximately 1:35 p.m. on June 27.
Investigators said a father was sitting inside an SUV with his four children while waiting for food when gunfire suddenly erupted in the parking lot.
The father and his 11-year-old daughter were struck by bullets during the exchange. Police later confirmed that two younger children, ages 2 and 5, were also inside the vehicle but were not injured.
Authorities described the family as innocent bystanders who were not involved in the dispute that led to the shooting. The father has since been treated and released from the hospital, while his daughter remains hospitalized in stable condition.
Surveillance Video Captures Chaotic Moments
Investigators said surveillance footage helped piece together what happened before the shooting.
According to police, 18-year-old Ralph N-Kosi Blue III, who reportedly worked at the McDonald’s, was seen walking toward the restaurant when he noticed another individual running in his direction.
Authorities allege Blue then pulled out a firearm and began shooting.
Investigators say the second individual took cover behind the family’s parked SUV, causing bullets to strike the vehicle occupied by the father and his children.
The two men eventually fled the scene in opposite directions. Police have not identified the second individual involved in the confrontation.
Witnesses Describe Panic
People who were nearby described a frightening scene as gunfire echoed through the parking lot.
Oscar Odero, who works near the restaurant, recalled hearing people screaming during the incident. Another witness identified only as Carlos said the shooting happened quickly.
“It was just two gunshots, all I saw was the police swarm the place and the suspect took off running.”
The incident left customers and nearby businesses shaken as officers secured the area and began collecting evidence.
Suspect Faces Multiple Charges
Police arrested Blue following the shooting. He has been charged with:
- Two counts of aggravated battery
- Two counts of aggravated assault
Authorities also confirmed that Blue is no longer employed by McDonald’s. According to jail records, he is being held at the Broward County Jail without bond.
It was not immediately clear whether he has obtained legal representation.
Investigation Remains Active
Police emphasized that the shooting was a targeted incident that began outside Hallandale Beach before ending in the McDonald’s parking lot.
Investigators continue working to identify the second individual involved and determine the events leading up to the confrontation.
Authorities have not released the identities of the injured family members.
As detectives continue gathering evidence, the case serves as another reminder of how quickly gun violence can impact innocent people who have no involvement in the underlying conflict.
