Swatara Township, Pennsylvania — A 10-year-old boy is facing multiple criminal charges after police say he allegedly attempted to rob a Dollar Tree store at knifepoint before stabbing an employee several times during a struggle inside the business.
The incident happened Monday evening at the Dollar Tree located on Paxton Street in Swatara Township, near Harrisburg, prompting an emergency response from local law enforcement.
According to the Swatara Township Police Department, officers were dispatched to the store at approximately 5:06 p.m. on June 29 after receiving reports of a robbery involving a knife.
Police Say Child Entered Store Armed With a Knife
Investigators said the boy allegedly entered the Dollar Tree carrying a fixed-blade knife before confronting an employee. According to police, the child allegedly threatened the employee with the weapon and demanded money from the store.
As the situation unfolded, other employees quickly intervened after witnessing the confrontation. Their actions prevented the suspect from leaving the business before officers arrived.
Police said responding officers found the 10-year-old already being detained by store employees when they reached the scene.
Employee Stabbed While Trying to Stop the Suspect
Authorities said the confrontation turned violent as employees attempted to restrain the child. During the struggle, one Dollar Tree employee was stabbed multiple times and required medical treatment.
