Bronx, New York — A woman who police say was fatally shot outside her workplace in the Bronx during an alleged family property dispute is being remembered not only as a beloved daughter but also as a talented aspiring rapper who once performed alongside New York hip-hop star Jadakiss.
Authorities have charged Michael Foster, 58, in connection with the fatal shooting of his niece, Julia Anderson, after investigators alleged a long-running dispute over a family-owned home escalated into deadly violence.
The allegations against Foster have not yet been proven in court.
Father Remembers Daughter’s Passion for Music
Julia Anderson performed under the stage name “Jewelz Champaign” during her music career and even appeared with Jadakiss, including on the rapper’s 2010 song “Coach of the Year,” according to her father, Julius Anderson.
Although she eventually stepped away from the music industry, her father said she remained a creative and vibrant person who always brought joy to those around her.
“I still can’t get my head around it,” Julius Anderson said.
Remembering his daughter, he added:
“She was my beautiful daughter, my first. She made me smile all the time.”
According to her father, Julia independently recorded an album before deciding to leave the music business because she was uncomfortable with aspects of the industry.
“She said, ‘Dad, I can’t make myself do all those things,’ so she stopped,” he recalled.
He also described her outgoing personality.
“She had lots of jokes because she was an artist. She was an entertainer, and they are unique in that sense.”
Police Allege Property Dispute Led to Deadly Shooting
According to law enforcement sources, the shooting happened Monday as Anderson was preparing to get into her Jeep outside her workplace in the Wakefield section of the Bronx.
Investigators allege Foster confronted his niece before shooting her multiple times in the stomach.
Authorities believe the violence stemmed from an ongoing legal dispute involving a family home located on Bell Avenue in Mount Vernon, New York.
Police have charged Foster in connection with Anderson’s death, and the criminal case is expected to proceed through the courts.
Suspect Previously Served Prison Time
Law enforcement sources said Foster previously served time in prison in connection with the drive-by killing of Ray Rice Sr., the father of former NFL player Ray Rice.
That prior conviction is separate from the current charges involving Anderson’s death and does not determine the outcome of the present case.
Prosecutors will be required to prove the allegations related to the fatal shooting in court.
Family Grieves Sudden Loss
Friends and relatives continue to mourn Anderson, remembering her as a talented performer whose dreams extended far beyond music.
While her recording career ended years ago, her father said she never lost the qualities that made people enjoy being around her.
