Brazos County, Texas — A promising professional boxer and fire safety inspector is dead after a driver allegedly targeted two bicyclists before reversing his vehicle and fatally striking one of them, according to Texas authorities.
The Brazos County Sheriff’s Office said 26-year-old Hannah Rapp died Saturday morning after being hit by a vehicle on FM 159. Investigators have arrested 31-year-old Charles Eric Medina, who is now facing a manslaughter charge in connection with the deadly incident.
Authorities have described the crash as an isolated incident, while the investigation remains ongoing.
Deputies Say Driver Reversed Before Hitting Cyclist
According to investigators, deputies responded to a major crash shortly before 10 a.m. Saturday in the 23000 block of FM 159.
When first responders arrived, they found Rapp lying in the roadway with severe injuries. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
During the investigation, detectives learned Medina allegedly drove past two bicyclists, then stopped his vehicle, shifted into reverse, and backed into one of the cyclists, striking Rapp.
Authorities have not publicly stated a motive or whether road rage played a role in the incident.
The Sheriff’s Office said detectives continue gathering evidence and have not released additional details about the circumstances leading up to the crash.
Hannah Rapp Was a Rising Professional Boxer
Beyond her career in public safety, Rapp had become a respected name in professional boxing.
Just last month, she challenged for the World Boxing Council (WBC) featherweight championship, where she lost by unanimous decision to champion Tiara Brown.
Following news of her death, WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman released a heartfelt statement.
“The loss of Hannah Rapp leaves us heartbroken. She was an exceptional boxer, but above all, an invaluable member of our boxing family. We join in the grief that overwhelms her loved ones, her team, and all those who had the privilege of knowing and supporting her throughout her brilliant career.”
Originally from Indiana, Rapp later moved to Texas, where she worked as a fire and life safety inspector at Texas A&M University.

Driver Arrested as Investigation Continues
Authorities arrested Charles Eric Medina following the investigation and booked him into the Brazos County Jail.
According to officials, Medina is being held on a $250,000 bond while the criminal case moves forward. The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that the investigation remains active, and no additional charges have been announced.
As with all criminal cases, the allegations against Medina remain accusations, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
