Wichita, Kansas — A prolonged stretch of dangerous summer heat is expected to intensify across Kansas over the next several days, with forecasters warning that heat index values could reach as high as 110 degrees by Tuesday afternoon.
While actual air temperatures will generally remain in the mid-to-upper 90s, high humidity will make conditions feel significantly hotter, increasing the risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, especially for anyone spending extended periods outdoors.
Forecasters say the hottest weather will occur on Monday and Tuesday, making this the most dangerous period of the upcoming forecast.
Dangerous Heat Builds Across Kansas
Sunday begins with morning temperatures in the low to mid-70s across central Kansas, while parts of western Kansas start out slightly cooler in the 60s.
Afternoon highs will climb into the mid-90s, but humidity will push the “feels like” temperature to around 100 degrees across much of central and eastern Kansas.

Although a few isolated thunderstorms are possible Sunday afternoon and evening, forecasters say the overall chance for rain remains low and severe weather is not expected.
A cold front is forecast to move into northern Kansas on Tuesday, bringing slightly cooler conditions to that part of the state.
However, southern Kansas will likely experience one more day of near-100-degree temperatures and oppressive humidity before any noticeable relief arrives.
A better opportunity for showers and thunderstorms is expected Wednesday night into Thursday morning, though much of the week will remain hot.

The Wichita area is expected to experience a steady increase in temperatures over the next several days.
- Sunday: High near 95 degrees, partly cloudy with a slight chance of an afternoon thunderstorm.
- Monday: Mostly sunny and hot with a high of 99 degrees, but it could feel like 105 degrees.
- Tuesday: Mostly sunny with a high around 101 degrees and a heat index approaching 110 degrees.
- Wednesday through Sunday: Highs remain in the mid to upper 90s, with only brief storm chances late Wednesday into Thursday.
Even after Tuesday’s peak heat, temperatures are expected to remain well above average into next weekend.
