2-Year-Old Boy Dies on Birthday Trip After 4-Year-Old Relative Allegedly Finds Unsecured Gun in Family's Car

Kissimmee, Florida — A family vacation meant to celebrate a young boy’s birthday ended in tragedy after a 2-year-old Georgia toddler was fatally shot inside a vehicle, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities identified the child as Brayden Tennyson, whose family had traveled from Louisville, Georgia, to Kissimmee for what was supposed to be a joyful birthday getaway.

Investigators say the heartbreaking incident occurred Sunday afternoon shortly after the family arrived at their Airbnb rental.

Police Say Child Was Shot After Cousin Found Unsecured Gun

According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, family members were outside the Airbnb after arriving at the property while Brayden remained inside the family’s vehicle.

Authorities say Brayden’s 4-year-old cousin later entered the vehicle and allegedly found an unsecured, unholstered handgun.

Moments later, family members heard a gunshot coming from inside the car.

Emergency responders rushed Brayden to a nearby hospital, but despite lifesaving efforts, the 2-year-old was later pronounced dead.

Officials have not released additional details about how the firearm was accessed or who owned the weapon.

Birthday Celebration Turns Into Heartbreaking Loss

According to a fundraiser created for Brayden’s family, the trip to Florida had been planned to celebrate what would have been his third birthday.

Instead of marking the occasion with family celebrations, loved ones are now mourning an unimaginable loss.

The fundraiser described the devastating turn of events.

“[The day] should have been filled with birthday candles, laughter, hugs, and happy memories. Instead, those who love Brayden are left mourning the loss of a beautiful little boy whose life was taken far too soon.”

The online fundraiser was created to help support Brayden’s mother and family during the difficult days ahead.

Investigation Remains Ongoing

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.

Authorities said the Medical Examiner’s Office and the Florida Department of Children and Families have both been notified as part of the investigation.

As of now, officials have not announced whether criminal charges will be filed.

Gun Safety Remains a Critical Concern

The tragedy serves as another reminder of the importance of safely storing firearms where children cannot access them.

Law enforcement officials and child safety advocates continue to encourage firearm owners to keep guns unloaded, securely locked, and stored separately from ammunition to help reduce the risk of accidental shootings involving children.

The investigation into Brayden’s death remains active as authorities work to determine exactly how the shooting occurred.
