Alabama Teen Identified as Military Couple's Eldest Son After Mother Is Fatally Stabbed and Father Left Fighting for His Life

Belforest, Alabama — A quiet Alabama neighborhood is reeling after authorities identified the 17-year-old accused of fatally stabbing his mother and critically injuring his father as the eldest son of the military couple, according to investigators and neighbors familiar with the family.

The suspect, Brandon Baker, was arrested Sunday and charged with murder and attempted murder following the violent attack that claimed the life of Samantha Baker, 37, and left Lance Baker, 46, hospitalized in critical condition.

Authorities initially withheld the teen’s identity because of his age, but neighbors later confirmed that the suspect was the Bakers’ oldest son.

Police Say Attack Followed Family Dispute

According to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, the incident unfolded Sunday night at the family’s home in the Belforest community.

Investigators believe the violence erupted following an argument over the parents’ discipline of the teenager.

Police allege Brandon attacked both of his parents with a knife inside the home before the confrontation continued outside the residence.

Authorities said the teenager later barricaded himself inside the home and called 911 after the attack. Officials have not released additional details about the events leading up to the stabbing, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Mother Died at Scene, Father Remains Hospitalized

Emergency responders found Samantha and Lance Baker suffering from multiple stab wounds outside their home. Samantha was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lance Baker, who neighbors said desperately ran from house to house seeking help, was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses recalled hearing him plead for help and repeatedly say he “didn’t want to die” before emergency crews arrived. Authorities said the couple’s younger son was not home during the attack and was not physically injured.

Social Media Reflected a Close Family Life

Before the tragedy, Samantha Baker frequently shared family moments on social media, posting photos from church gatherings, high school football games and family celebrations.

She often wrote affectionately about both of her sons, including Brandon, whom she described in one birthday post as her “first born” and “my baby.”

In another post, she shared her hope that she and her husband would raise their boys to become respectful husbands, patient fathers and good friends.

Teen Faces Adult Prosecution

Brandon Baker appeared in court Monday following his arrest.

According to authorities, he is being held on a $1 million bond and is expected to stand trial as an adult because of the seriousness of the charges.

Investigators have not announced whether additional evidence or witness testimony could lead to further developments as the case proceeds through the court system.

The allegations remain accusations, and Brandon Baker is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

The case has stunned the local community, where neighbors continue to mourn Samantha Baker’s death while hoping for Lance Baker’s recovery as investigators work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the deadly family tragedy.
