Belforest, Alabama — A quiet Alabama neighborhood was left shaken after a 17-year-old boy allegedly stabbed both of his parents during a domestic dispute, killing his mother and critically injuring his father before barricading himself inside the family home, authorities said.
The deadly incident unfolded around 9 p.m. Sunday in the Belforest community of Baldwin County, where deputies responded to reports of a stabbing at the family’s residence.
According to investigators, the violent attack stemmed from a family argument over the teenager being disciplined.
Parents Allegedly Attacked Inside and Outside the Home
The Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office said the teen allegedly stabbed both of his parents multiple times inside the home before the violence continued outside as the couple attempted to escape.
Authorities identified the victims as Samantha Baker, 37, and her husband, Lance Baker, 46. Emergency responders found both suffering from multiple stab wounds outside the residence.
Samantha Baker, who worked as a realtor, was pronounced dead at the scene, while Lance Baker was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition for emergency treatment.
Investigators said the teen later barricaded himself inside the home and called police before being taken into custody.
Army Veteran Father Ran Through Neighborhood Seeking Help
One of the most heartbreaking moments described by witnesses came after Lance Baker managed to flee the home despite his severe injuries.
Neighbors said the wounded father desperately ran from house to house pleading for someone to help him. Shawn Scurry, who reviewed footage from his home security camera, described hearing Baker’s emotional cries.
“That was probably the hardest part — was pulling up my camera and listening to it and listening to the father yelling for help… please help me… I don’t want to die.”
“And it just carried on down and it looks like he was trying to find an open door and I didn’t know where he was or where anybody was.”
Lance Baker is a 26-year veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve and serves as Battalion Commander with the 1184th Deployment and Distribution Support Battalion based in Mobile, Alabama.
Teen Charged as an Adult
Authorities described the incident as an isolated domestic matter and confirmed that the suspect, who has not been publicly identified because of his age, will be tried as an adult.
The 17-year-old has been charged with murder and attempted murder.
Following his arraignment, he was ordered held in jail on a $1 million bond while the criminal case proceeds.
Officials have not released additional details about what specifically led to the fatal confrontation beyond stating that it followed an argument over discipline.
Police also confirmed that the couple’s younger teenage son was not home at the time of the attack.
Community Mourns Loss of Mother
Friends and coworkers have remembered Samantha Baker as a caring and compassionate person whose death has devastated those who knew her.
One friend, April Shepherd, paid tribute on social media.
“She was so brave, so caring, so joyful. I’m going to miss her so very much.”
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the stabbing as the community mourns the loss of a mother and prays for the recovery of her critically injured husband.
Speaking about the tragedy, Baldwin County Sheriff’s Capt. Justin Correa acknowledged the emotional toll on everyone involved.
“It is really sad. It’s very sad for this family, having to deal with it.”
