Branford, Connecticut — A Connecticut father who admitted to fatally beating his 12-year-old son with a baseball bat and then attempting to kill his teenage daughter has been sentenced to 60 years in prison, bringing one of Branford’s most disturbing homicide cases to a close.
The sentence was handed down Monday after Anthony Esposito Jr. previously pleaded guilty to charges of murder and attempted murder in April.
The case shocked the local community because of the brutal violence inside the family’s home and the narrow escape of the defendant’s teenage daughter.
Prosecutors Detailed the Deadly Attack
According to prosecutors, the violence unfolded on May 1, 2025, when police responded to the family’s condominium on Hemlock Road in Branford.
Inside the home, officers discovered 12-year-old Anthony P. Esposito dead.
Investigators said Anthony Esposito Jr. later admitted that he killed his son because he believed the child had been disrespectful. Prosecutors said the father used a baseball bat during the fatal assault, causing injuries that claimed the boy’s life.
The tragic discovery led to Esposito Jr.’s arrest shortly afterward.
Daughter Escaped After Alleged Murder Attempt
Following the killing of his son, prosecutors said Esposito Jr. left the condominium and went to Branford’s town green to pick up his 16-year-old daughter.
After returning home, the teenager asked where her younger brother was. According to prosecutors, her father told her the boy was downstairs in the basement before following her toward the staircase.
Investigators said Esposito Jr. then pushed his daughter down the stairs, where her brother’s body was located. The daughter was able to escape before she suffered the same fate.
Prosecutors also told the court that Esposito Jr. admitted he would have killed his daughter as well if he had been able to reach the baseball bat.
Her escape ultimately prevented an even greater tragedy.
Guilty Plea Led to Lengthy Prison Sentence
Earlier this year, Esposito Jr. pleaded guilty to murder in connection with his son’s death and attempted murder for the attack on his daughter.
During Monday’s sentencing hearing, the judge imposed 40 years in prison for the murder conviction and 20 additional years for attempted murder.
The sentences will be served consecutively, resulting in a total effective prison sentence of 60 years. The ruling means Esposito Jr. will spend decades behind bars for the crimes committed against his own children.

While announcing the sentence, the judge strongly condemned the nature of the case, describing it as among the most disturbing to come before the court.
