Brooklyn, New York — A Brooklyn mother and her boyfriend have been indicted on multiple felony charges, including murder, following the death of a 3-year-old boy whom prosecutors allege suffered prolonged abuse, neglect, starvation, and dehydration before his death.
The case has drawn widespread attention after authorities accused the pair of abandoning the child’s body at a hospital and leaving before providing answers about what had happened.
According to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office, Sunshyne Davis, 25, and Robert White, 39, were formally indicted in connection with the death of Davis’ son, Kyng Davis.
Child’s Body Allegedly Dropped Off at Hospital
Prosecutors said the incident occurred on March 9, 2025, when Davis and White brought the 3-year-old boy to a local hospital. According to investigators, after speaking briefly with hospital personnel, the pair allegedly left the facility and drove away.
A hospital employee later described the scene in comments to local media.
“I heard that some lady [was] bringing in a baby, lifeless,” a hospital employee told PIX11.
The worker claimed staff attempted to gather more information about the child’s condition and what had happened.
“And when [hospital staff] tried to get more, asked what happened, she just left. She just took off. She had a car parked, waiting for her. And they just left.”
The child was later identified as Kyng Davis.
Prosecutors Allege Child Suffered Prolonged Abuse
Authorities allege the boy’s death was not the result of a single incident but instead followed a pattern of abuse and neglect. According to prosecutors, the child suffered blunt force trauma, starvation, dehydration, and other forms of abuse prior to his death.
Investigators further alleged that Davis and White were living in White’s vehicle at the time the child died. The indictment accuses both defendants of failing to provide the care necessary for the young boy’s survival.
Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez described the allegations as deeply disturbing.
“This innocent child allegedly suffered day after day, denied the most basic care and compassion,” Gonzalez said.
He added:
“Instead of safeguarding Kyng Davis, the defendants are accused of inflicting the very harm that led to his death. We will vigorously prosecute this case to secure justice for Kyng and ensure accountability for this devastating tragedy.”
Multiple Criminal Charges Filed
Both defendants have been charged with second-degree murder, second-degree manslaughter, and endangering the welfare of a child, according to prosecutors.

In addition to the homicide-related charges, White previously faced assault allegations after authorities accused him of striking the child multiple times.
Court records detailing the full scope of the allegations are expected to be reviewed as the criminal proceedings move forward. As of now, officials have not publicly indicated whether either defendant has entered a plea in the case.
Investigation and Court Proceedings Continue
Authorities continue to pursue the case as prosecutors prepare for future court proceedings. The allegations remain accusations, and both defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Meanwhile, advocates say the case highlights the importance of recognizing and reporting signs of child abuse and neglect before tragedies occur.
The death of Kyng Davis has left many in the community searching for answers while family members, investigators, and prosecutors await the next steps in the legal process.
If you suspect a child is being abused or neglected, authorities encourage contacting appropriate child protection services or law enforcement immediately.
