Shipshewana, Indiana — An Indiana woman is facing serious criminal charges after investigators alleged that her decision to stop taking medication prescribed for her seizure disorder contributed to the death of her 5-month-old son. The case follows a months-long investigation into the infant’s fatal injuries and has now resulted in charges of murder and neglect of a dependent resulting in death.
Mother Arrested Months After Infant’s Death
According to investigators, 24-year-old Chantel Cunningham was arrested this week in connection with the death of her son, Greyson, who died on April 6.
Police said Cunningham was alone with the infant inside their Shipshewana, Indiana, home when the incident occurred.
Court documents cited by local media state that Cunningham told investigators she experienced a seizure while holding Greyson, causing her to drop him before falling on top of him.
Authorities allege the incident resulted in fatal injuries to the child.
Following her arrest, Cunningham was booked into the LaGrange County Jail, where she remained in custody pending court proceedings.
Investigators Say Medication Had Been Stopped Months Earlier

Authorities said Greyson died from multiple skull fractures, according to the court documents.
Indiana State Police detectives who responded to the home shortly after the infant’s death reportedly believed the circumstances warranted a more extensive investigation.
Over the following months, detectives reviewed evidence and interviewed witnesses before presenting the case for criminal charges.
