Charlotte, North Carolina — A woman walking along a Charlotte sidewalk was hospitalized after police say a man suddenly approached her and launched an apparently unprovoked attack. The alleged assault was captured on video, giving investigators a crucial lead that ultimately resulted in the suspect’s arrest.
Authorities say Di-Quan Schafar Hunt, 32, approached the woman on East Boulevard before allegedly punching her, standing over her and yelling at her as she remained on the ground.
Woman Was Walking When Attack Allegedly Began
The incident happened on July 30 in the 400 block of East Boulevard in Charlotte.
According to police, the woman was simply walking along the sidewalk when Hunt approached her. The interaction was reportedly captured on video. Authorities say Hunt told the woman, “Don’t wave to me,” before allegedly punching her.
After she was knocked down, police say Hunt stood over her and shouted, “You still talking?” He then allegedly left the area.
Investigators have described the incident as appearing to be a random attack, although the circumstances and motive remain under investigation.
Victim Taken to Hospital After Attack
The woman suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to police. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment following the alleged assault.
Authorities have not publicly identified the woman or released additional details about the specific injuries she suffered. The attack has raised concern because investigators say there was apparently no known prior interaction or obvious reason for the confrontation.
Social Media Video Helped Police Identify Suspect
The investigation took a significant turn on Thursday morning, when Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers were called to the 800 block of East 4th Street at around 10 a.m.
A person at the location reportedly showed officers a social media account containing multiple videos that detectives were already investigating.
Among those videos was footage that allegedly showed the East Boulevard sidewalk attack from the previous week. Detectives reviewed the footage and determined that Hunt was their suspect, according to police.
The video reportedly provided investigators with important evidence as they worked to identify the man seen attacking the woman.
Hunt Arrested Hours Later
After identifying Hunt as the suspect, detectives continued their investigation before taking him into custody later Thursday.
Police said Hunt was subsequently brought to a local medical facility for treatment before being transferred to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
He is expected to face a charge of assault with a deadly weapon, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. Authorities emphasized that the investigation remained ongoing following his arrest.

Arrest History Draws Additional Attention
Hunt’s arrest also comes amid a history of previous encounters with law enforcement.
Records from the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office show that Hunt was arrested at least nine times between October 2023 and December 2025.
Those previous arrests are separate matters, and the records do not by themselves establish guilt in the current case.
The latest investigation centers on the July 30 incident and the allegation that Hunt randomly attacked a woman who was walking on a Charlotte sidewalk.
The victim’s recovery and the evidence captured in the video are expected to remain important parts of the case as prosecutors review the allegations.
As with any criminal accusation, Hunt is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
