Renton, Washington — A Washington man is facing a first-degree murder charge after police say he fatally stabbed his 79-year-old mother inside her own apartment and later attacked officers who were pursuing him. Authorities say the suspect made a disturbing statement about the killing during his arrest.
Christopher Mott, 42, is accused of killing Colleen Marie McCue at the Cedar River Terrace Apartments in Renton, a city just outside Seattle.
Police Responded to Chaotic Scene
The investigation began shortly before midnight on Aug. 3, when Renton police received reports of a vehicle inside the apartment building and possible gunshots.
When officers arrived, they found the complex’s front doors shattered. A parking post outside the entrance had also been severely damaged and twisted into a piece of metal.
As officers began searching the area, they encountered a man who was later identified as Mott.
Police say Mott ran from officers, triggering a foot pursuit through the area.
Suspect Allegedly Attacked Police During Pursuit
According to the charging documents, Mott allegedly pulled an object from his waistband while fleeing and lunged toward one of the officers.
The officer drew his firearm, moved backward and fell as Mott continued running. A second officer then continued chasing the suspect.
Authorities allege that Mott eventually turned around and slashed at the second officer’s face with a knife. The officer then used a Taser-like device, causing Mott to drop the knife and temporarily seize from the electrical shock.
As officers moved in to arrest him, Mott allegedly shouted, “Oh my God. So much more to come.”
Officer Suffered Serious Facial Injuries
The second officer immediately reported that he could not see out of his right eye. Body-camera footage and the charging documents reportedly showed the seriousness of the injuries.
Paramedics later documented multiple lacerations, including wounds to the officer’s upper lip, right cheek and area around his right eye.
Police say the injuries were caused during the alleged knife attack. Mott was eventually taken into custody and officers began questioning him about what had happened.
Suspect Allegedly Admitted Killing His Mother
During the arrest, Mott allegedly made a statement indicating that he had killed his mother.
According to the probable cause statement, he later made an even more disturbing comment after being handcuffed and seated upright.
Authorities say Mott allegedly said “it felt great” after admitting to killing his mother.
Investigators then returned to the apartment complex to determine what had happened inside the residence.
Police Found 79-Year-Old Woman Dead Inside Apartment
Officers contacted the building’s maintenance manager and obtained surveillance footage from the property. The footage allegedly showed Mott damaging the front of the apartment complex before the police pursuit.
Investigators then went to the apartment where Mott’s mother lived. Inside, they discovered Colleen Marie McCue stabbed to death on the floor.
Police subsequently connected Mott to the fatal attack and arrested him on suspicion of multiple crimes.
Mott Faces Murder and Other Charges
Mott is currently facing one count each of first-degree murder, assault and burglary, according to the Renton Police Department.
The assault charge stems from the alleged attack on the police officer during the pursuit. Mott remains in custody at the King County Jail, where his bail has been set at $5 million.
The case remains ongoing, and the allegations against Mott have not been proven in court.
