Farmington, Minnesota — A heartbreaking hit-and-run investigation in Minnesota has taken a major turn after authorities arrested four people in connection with the death of 13-year-old Sasha Balandin, who was fatally struck while riding his bicycle earlier this month.
The arrests come just days after Sasha’s tragic death shook the Farmington community, where friends, neighbors and family members have been mourning the loss of a young boy remembered for his joyful personality and love of the outdoors.
Four Arrested in Deadly Hit-and-Run Investigation
According to multiple reports, four individuals were taken into custody on Wednesday, July 22, as investigators continued to examine the fatal collision.
Authorities have not publicly identified the suspects, but reports state they include a 30-year-old man, a 28-year-old woman, a 36-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman.
Investigators allege the 30-year-old man is suspected of criminal vehicular homicide and failing to stop at the scene of a traffic accident resulting in death.
The remaining three suspects are accused of aiding an offender in connection with the investigation.
Police have not released additional information about each person’s alleged role in the case.
Teen Was Riding Bike With Friend Before Crash
Authorities said Sasha was riding his bicycle with a friend on July 14 when the two attempted to cross a roadway near a McDonald’s in Farmington.
During the crossing, Sasha was struck by a vehicle.
Emergency responders arrived quickly, but the teenager was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators later launched a search for those believed to be connected to the crash, ultimately leading to the four recent arrests.
Family Remembers Sasha’s Kind Heart and Big Dreams
As the investigation continued, community members rallied around Sasha’s family through online fundraisers that have raised more than $34,000.
Organizers described Sasha as a caring, adventurous boy who enjoyed spending time outdoors and making memories with his family.
“Sasha loved fishing and was always asking to go. He loved mountain biking, collecting old coins, Pokémon, and cooking—often surprising his family by making them something special. He dreamed of becoming a mechanic one day and hoped to live on a farm.”
Sasha is survived by his parents, younger sister and older brother, who continue to grieve the unimaginable loss.

His father, Evgeniy Balandin, remembered his son as someone who brought happiness wherever he went.
“He was laughing all the time, playing all the time, goofing around all the time, just pure joy to have him.”

Authorities have not announced whether additional charges could be filed as the investigation moves forward.
