Boynton Beach, Florida — Authorities in South Florida are investigating a heartbreaking incident after a 3-year-old child died days after becoming trapped inside a toy kitchen playset while at a babysitter’s home. Police say the tragedy unfolded while the babysitter was away and the children were being supervised by the babysitter’s spouse.
Investigators are continuing to examine exactly how the fatal accident occurred.
Emergency Responders Found Child Unresponsive
According to the Boynton Beach Police Department, officers were dispatched to a home in the Meadows of Boynton Beach community shortly after 11 a.m. on July 23 following reports that a child was unresponsive and not breathing.
When officers arrived, they immediately began life-saving measures before the child was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Despite emergency treatment, the child died four days later, police confirmed. Authorities have not publicly released the child’s identity.
Babysitter Had Left Children With Spouse
Police said their preliminary investigation found that the 3-year-old and a sibling were at the babysitter’s home when the incident happened.
According to investigators, the babysitter left the residence at some point, leaving the children in the care of their spouse.
Police said the spouse remained upstairs while the children played downstairs, checking on them periodically and providing snacks throughout the day.
Authorities have not disclosed how long the babysitter was away before the emergency occurred.
Child Found Trapped Inside Toy Kitchen
During one of those routine checks, the spouse reportedly discovered the 3-year-old trapped inside a toy kitchen playset.
According to police, the spouse immediately removed the child from the playset and began performing life-saving measures while waiting for first responders to arrive.
Investigators also interviewed the child’s sibling, who reportedly said the two children had been trying to retrieve toys that had fallen before the toddler became trapped.
Officials have not released additional details about exactly how the child became stuck inside the playset.

The Boynton Beach Police Department said detectives continue working to determine all the circumstances surrounding the incident.
As of now, no criminal charges have been filed, and authorities emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing.
