Peoria, Arizona — An Arizona man is accused of killing his own parents after allegedly becoming angry with them over medication, then calmly calling 911 and telling a dispatcher that he had murdered them.
Investigators say Jonathan Turk, 29, had also gone to Walmart earlier that day, where surveillance footage reportedly captured him purchasing a hammer believed to have been used in the deadly attack.
Man Allegedly Confessed During 911 Call
According to an arrest affidavit, Turk contacted emergency dispatchers after the killings and described what had happened inside his family’s home.
During the call, he allegedly told the dispatcher that his parents were “lying on the floor” and explained that he had been angry with them.
When asked about the situation, Turk reportedly gave a remarkably calm response.
“A murder.”
When the dispatcher asked who had been killed, he allegedly answered:
“My parents.”
He then reportedly said, “Uh, I did it.”
Investigators say Turk also told the dispatcher that he would step outside with a bottle of water and wait for police officers to arrive. The affidavit states that he indicated he would cooperate with authorities.
Police Find Parents Dead Inside Home
Officers arrived at the family’s Peoria residence and entered the home, where they allegedly discovered blood evidence on the kitchen floor and stairs.
Turk’s father, Fraser Turk, was found near the top landing of the staircase. Police said he was covered in blood and had at least one stab wound.
Turk’s mother, Tina Turk, was found unresponsive inside the master bathroom and had suffered head trauma, according to investigators.
Paramedics responded to the residence but determined that both parents had died.
While searching the home, officers also reportedly found a hammer and a knife with apparent blood inside a trash can in an upstairs bedroom.
Walmart Surveillance Allegedly Captured Hammer Purchase
Investigators believe the hammer recovered from the home may have been purchased by Turk shortly before the killings.
According to court documents, Turk went to Walmart on the day of the double homicide, and surveillance footage allegedly showed him buying a hammer.
Police say the footage and the discovery of the weapon inside the home became part of the evidence connecting Turk to the killings.
During a later custodial interview, however, Turk reportedly declined to make a statement after being advised of his rights.
Family Had Reportedly Been Concerned About His Mental Health
Court documents cited by local media indicate that Turk’s mental health had reportedly deteriorated beginning in 2023.
His family allegedly attempted to get him professional help several times over the following years, including three attempts shortly before the killings.
Authorities have said the alleged dispute involving his parents was connected to medication, although the full circumstances surrounding the argument remain part of the investigation.
The allegations do not establish why the confrontation escalated into deadly violence.
Turk Faces Two Murder Charges
Turk has now been charged with two counts of murder in connection with the deaths of his parents. He is being held on a $2 million cash-only bond while the criminal case proceeds.
The evidence described by investigators includes the 911 call, surveillance footage from Walmart, statements allegedly made during the emergency call, and the weapons recovered inside the residence.
The case remains pending, and Turk is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
