Cobb County, Georgia — A routine Sunday morning workout allegedly turned into a terrifying fight for survival for a Georgia woman after a stranger reportedly tried to hit her with his car three times moments after the pair exchanged what authorities described as a brief and polite greeting.
The woman was exercising at the Sedgefield Apartments in Cobb County on July 19 when she encountered Jesse Allen Davis, 21, according to a criminal warrant.
Brief Greeting Allegedly Came Before Attack
The woman reportedly did not know Davis before their encounter.
According to the warrant, the two exchanged a “brief, polite greeting” while passing one another. What happened next was dramatically different.
Authorities allege that Davis got into a parked 2004 Nissan Sentra, started the vehicle and accelerated directly toward the woman at a high rate of speed.
Another driver reportedly moved into Davis’ path, forcing him to stop before he could strike the woman. The woman then ran toward her residence, apparently trying to get away from the vehicle.
Driver Allegedly Pursued Her
According to investigators, the frightening encounter did not end after the woman escaped the first attempted collision.
Davis allegedly followed her in his vehicle toward the area of Commons Lane, where authorities say he attempted to drive toward her a second time.
The woman was forced onto a sidewalk and eventually found cover behind a dumpster, according to the warrant. She then called 911 while attempting to remain hidden.
But authorities allege Davis continued looking for her.
Third Attempt Allegedly Sent Woman Running for Cover
While the woman was hiding, Davis allegedly shouted profanities, maneuvered his vehicle and attempted to strike her for a third time before leaving the area.
Cobb County Police Sgt. Eric Smith described the incident to local television station WSB-TV. According to Smith, Davis allegedly got into his vehicle and attempted to strike the woman while she was in the parking lot.
The alleged attack left the woman scrambling for safety during what had started as an ordinary morning exercise routine.
Suspect Also Allegedly Hit Another Vehicle
A separate criminal warrant alleges that Davis struck another vehicle during the incident. Authorities say the Nissan collided with a gray Ford Fusion, after which Davis allegedly failed to immediately stop or return to the scene.
The pursuit eventually ended when Davis crashed into a pole.
Neighbor Lloydethan White said he witnessed part of the chaos and claimed Davis nearly hit him as well. White said he saw the vehicle come dangerously close to both his car and the woman.
Woman Escapes Without Being Hit
The woman was able to avoid being struck during the three alleged attempts and survived the frightening encounter. White said he later checked on her but did not initially understand what she had just experienced.
He expressed concern that someone simply trying to exercise had been forced to fear for her life. The motive behind the alleged attack remains unclear.
Police have not said that Davis and the woman had any known relationship or conflict before the encounter. Investigators also have not publicly identified any reason why a seemingly ordinary greeting allegedly preceded the violent confrontation.
Suspect Faces Multiple Charges
Davis was ultimately arrested and booked into the Cobb County Jail. Jail records list charges including felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor hit-and-run. His total listed bond amount was $5,720.
The criminal case remains ongoing, and the allegations against Davis have not been proven in court. Authorities are continuing to investigate what led to the alleged attack and whether additional circumstances contributed to the confrontation.
