Pulaski County, Arkansas — More than four months after a devastating dog attack claimed the life of a 2-year-old girl, authorities have announced criminal charges against three adults in connection with the tragedy that shocked an Arkansas community.
Investigators say the child was fatally attacked by a neighbor’s loose dog, which allegedly dragged her into nearby woods before first responders arrived.
Three Adults Arrested Following Months-Long Investigation
According to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, Earnest Jackson, 54, Christina Hart, 41, and MaKayla Jackson, 21, were arrested and each charged with endangering the welfare of a minor.
The arrests were announced on Aug. 4, several months after investigators began examining the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
Authorities have not publicly released additional details explaining the specific actions that led to the charges.
Court records have not yet indicated whether any of the three defendants have entered pleas or retained attorneys to represent them.
Toddler Died After Dog Attack
The fatal incident occurred on March 28, when deputies responded to reports of an animal attack involving a 2-year-old girl. According to investigators, a neighbor’s dog was loose when it attacked the toddler.
Authorities told local media that the dog dragged the child into nearby woods, where emergency responders later found her. Despite rescue efforts, the little girl was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials have not released further information regarding the dog or whether additional animal-related actions have been taken since the attack.
Family Remembers Celeste Jackson
Loved ones later identified the victim as Celeste Jackson through a GoFundMe campaign created to help the family with memorial expenses.
In the fundraiser, relatives described Celeste as a bright and intelligent little girl whose cheerful personality brought happiness to everyone around her.
They shared that she loved watching Ms. Rachel, Bluey, and Stitch, saying her joyful spirit made a lasting impact despite her young age.
The family also expressed the overwhelming grief they have experienced since losing her, explaining that they continue supporting one another as they cope with the unimaginable tragedy.
Community Continues Supporting the Family
As of Aug. 5, the online fundraiser had nearly reached its $5,000 goal to assist with funeral and memorial costs.
The campaign has received support from community members moved by Celeste’s story and by the heartbreaking circumstances surrounding her death.
While investigators have announced the criminal charges, the legal process is only beginning.
The defendants remain entitled to the presumption of innocence, and prosecutors will now be responsible for presenting evidence in court as the case moves forward.
The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office has not indicated whether additional charges could be filed as the investigation continues.
