Arden-Arcade, California — A California chef who rose to national prominence after appearing on a television cooking competition alongside the late Anthony Bourdain is now facing a felony domestic violence allegation following his arrest in the Sacramento area.
Authorities say Adam Pechal, 50, was taken into custody Wednesday night after deputies responded to a report of an alleged assault at a residence in Arden-Arcade, just outside Sacramento.
Deputies Responded to Late-Night Domestic Violence Report
According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to a home at approximately 11 p.m. Wednesday after a woman reported that she had been physically assaulted.
Officials said the woman was medically evaluated at the scene and cleared, after which deputies arrested Pechal on suspicion of felony domestic violence.
Authorities have not released additional details about the alleged incident or identified the woman involved. As of now, the allegations remain unproven, and the criminal case is in its early stages.
Chef Remains in Jail Ahead of Court Appearance
Following his arrest, Pechal was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail during the early hours of Thursday. Jail records show he is being held on $50,000 bail.
He is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Sacramento Superior Court, where the charges against him are expected to be formally addressed.
Court proceedings will determine how the case moves forward.
Television Fame Helped Launch His Career
Pechal first gained national attention after competing on Season 1 of ABC’s The Taste, a cooking competition co-hosted and executive produced by Anthony Bourdain.
His appearance on the show introduced him to a wider audience and helped establish his reputation in the culinary world.
Following the television competition, Pechal became a well-known figure in Sacramento’s restaurant industry, operating several businesses, including Tuli Bistro, Thir13en, and Tuli Catering.
He later shifted his focus toward private events, culinary consulting, and chef education.
Built Reputation as Private Chef and Consultant
In recent years, Pechal continued working in California’s food scene through catering and consulting projects.
In 2025, he designed the menu for Local Flights at Sacramento International Airport, adding another high-profile project to his résumé.
According to his public social media profiles, he most recently worked as a private chef, culinary consultant, and culinary educator, regularly preparing meals for Sacramento Kings players and other private clients.
His arrest has now placed renewed attention on his career and public profile.
Case Remains Pending
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office has not released further information regarding the investigation, and prosecutors have not yet publicly outlined the evidence expected to be presented in court.
Pechal has not publicly commented on the allegations, and no plea has been entered at this stage of the proceedings.
