Havelock, North Carolina — A North Carolina family is searching for answers after 50-year-old Dana Darlene Ammons disappeared more than a month ago, leaving her vehicle behind at a dealership before walking away on foot. Surveillance cameras captured her final known movements on June 22, but despite ongoing efforts by police and loved ones, she has not been seen or heard from since.
Surveillance Video Captured Her Last Known Movements
According to the Havelock Police Department, surveillance footage recorded Ammons near Caballus Trailers LLC along U.S. Highway 70 between Havelock and New Bern on the morning of June 22.
Investigators said the video showed Ammons walking west toward New Bern, marking the last confirmed sighting of her before she seemingly vanished.
Her son-in-law, Lance Lane, said the family has pieced together her final known movements through security footage from nearby businesses.
According to Lance, Ammons first parked her vehicle at a nearby car dealership before crossing the highway on foot.
He explained that surveillance cameras at a nearby veterinary clinic also captured her crossing U.S. 70 and continuing toward New Bern.
After that, there have been no confirmed sightings or contact.
Police Classify Her as a Missing Endangered Adult
Authorities have officially designated Ammons as a missing endangered adult, citing concerns for her wellbeing.
Police said they became especially worried because she was believed to be traveling on foot during hazardous weather conditions, increasing the potential risk to her safety.
Investigators have continued searching the area while encouraging anyone who may have seen Ammons to contact law enforcement.
Despite weeks of investigation, officials have not released any indication of where she may have gone after the surveillance footage ended.
Family Fears the Worst as Search Continues
The uncertainty surrounding Ammons’ disappearance has taken an emotional toll on her family.
Her daughter, Katelyn Lane, said she struggles every day with not knowing what happened.
She admitted that she no longer knows whether her mother is still alive, describing the situation as heartbreaking for everyone involved.
Family members have since expanded their own search efforts, visiting surrounding communities and sharing missing person flyers in hopes someone will recognize her.
Katelyn said many people were still unaware of the case, prompting the family to increase awareness throughout eastern North Carolina.
Loved Ones Say Her Disappearance Is Out of Character
Relatives insist that disappearing without contacting family is completely unlike Ammons.
Katelyn said her mother would never have intentionally left without letting loved ones know where she was, particularly if she had been taking her prescribed medication.
Another family member, Felicia Elmore, said increasing public awareness remains one of the family’s biggest priorities.
She believes that the more people who see Ammons’ photograph, the greater the chance someone will remember seeing her or provide investigators with a critical lead.
Police Continue Asking for the Public’s Help
Police describe Dana Darlene Ammons as approximately 5 feet 4 inches tall and 190 pounds, with shoulder-length hair and brown eyes.
Authorities said she has several distinctive identifying features, including a butterfly tattoo on her right shoulder, angel wings tattooed on her back, and a burn scar on her right arm.
Investigators are urging anyone who may have seen Ammons or has information about her whereabouts to contact the Havelock Police Department as the search remains active.
For her family, every passing day without answers makes the search even more urgent, but they remain hopeful that someone will recognize her and help bring her home.
