Dallas, Georgia — A Georgia community is mourning the loss of a man whose family says he was known for helping others after authorities alleged he was fatally stabbed by a friend he had invited to stay in his home rent-free.
According to the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, 37-year-old Jacob Brady has been charged with murder and aggravated assault in connection with the death of Josh Addison, 37, following a violent incident Sunday night at a home on Amsterdam Way in Dallas.
Investigators say the case began as an act of kindness but ended in tragedy after an argument allegedly turned deadly.
Police Say Argument Escalated Into Deadly Stabbing
Deputies responded to the residence after receiving an emergency call and found a man on the back porch covered in blood. Inside the home, officers discovered Addison suffering from multiple stab wounds to the chest.
He was transported to a hospital, where doctors later pronounced him dead.
Authorities arrested Brady at the scene. He remains in the Paulding County Jail without bond, and court records did not immediately list his next court appearance.
According to investigators, Addison had offered Brady and his wife a place to live after the couple experienced financial difficulties.
Police told local media that an argument reportedly broke out as the couple was moving into the home before Brady allegedly attacked Addison with a knife.
911 Call Revealed What Happened
Authorities said Brady’s wife called 911 after discovering Addison following the stabbing.
According to the recorded emergency call obtained by local media, she told dispatchers:
“My husband attacked him with a knife.”
Investigators have not publicly disclosed what led to the argument or what may have triggered the alleged attack.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Family Says Victim Was Known for Helping Others
Family members told local reporters that Brady had recently been released from jail and needed a place to stay with his wife. Addison offered the couple a rent-free home until they could get back on their feet and find more permanent housing.
His mother, Ann Gazell, said that generosity defined who her son was.
“His heart was for those that didn’t have anything and not that Josh had much, but he would give you whatever he had to try and take care of you,” Gazell said.
Loved ones described Addison as someone who consistently put others before himself, even when he had little to give.
Family Remembers a Loving Father and Friend
The tragedy has added to a series of heartbreaking losses for Addison’s family.
According to his mother, Addison is the third child she has lost, following the death of one child shortly after birth and another daughter who died of cancer at age 24.
She also recalled happier memories of Josh and his brother playfully teasing their sister throughout childhood.
A GoFundMe created in Addison’s memory described him as “loving, caring and kind” and said he always went out of his way to help friends and family whenever possible.
Addison is survived by his teenage daughter, as loved ones continue to remember the compassion and generosity that shaped his life.
