Mom Watches in Horror as Stranger on Scooter Randomly Attacks Her 12-Year-Old Son

Queens, New York — Police are asking for the public’s help after a 12-year-old boy was allegedly attacked without warning while walking with his mother in a busy Queens neighborhood, leaving the child injured and prompting an ongoing search for the suspect.

Authorities say the assault occurred in Flushing and appears to have been completely unprovoked. Investigators are now working to identify the man, who fled the scene on an electric scooter after the attack.

Child Attacked While Walking With His Mother

According to the New York City Police Department, the incident happened at approximately 9 p.m. on June 18 near the intersection of Blossom Avenue and Main Street in Flushing.

Police said the 12-year-old boy was walking with his mother when an unidentified man riding an electric scooter suddenly approached them.

Investigators allege the suspect grabbed the child, pushed him to the ground, and punched him in the face before quickly leaving the area.

Authorities have not indicated that the suspect or victim knew one another, and the attack is being investigated as a random assault.

Boy Taken to Hospital With Injuries

Following the assault, responding officers transported the injured child to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Police said the boy was listed in stable condition. Officials have not released additional details regarding the extent of his injuries. The child’s mother was present throughout the incident, but authorities have not reported any injuries to her.

Police Release Suspect Image

As detectives continue investigating the case, the NYPD has released a photograph of the individual believed to be responsible for the assault.

According to investigators, the suspect was riding an electric scooter and was carrying a large jug of orange juice at the time of the incident.

Police said he was wearing:

  • A blue shirt
  • Khaki shorts
  • White sneakers

Authorities hope the released image will help members of the public recognize the individual and provide information leading to his identification.

Detectives continue reviewing available evidence and speaking with potential witnesses as they work to determine what led to the attack.
