Alabama — A family road trip turned into an unexpected confrontation for an Oklahoma father after his decision to take his young daughters into a women’s restroom at a gas station led to an argument with another customer and a police response.
The incident, which was later shared on TikTok by father Tyler Brodsky, has attracted widespread attention online and reignited debate over how parents should handle restroom situations involving young children.
According to Brodsky, the encounter happened while he was driving home to Oklahoma from Florida with his daughters over the weekend.
Father Says He Chose What He Felt Was the Safer Option
During the trip, Brodsky stopped at a QuikTrip gas station in Alabama so his daughters could use the restroom.
He said the women’s restroom was empty, and he decided to accompany his daughters inside rather than take them into the men’s restroom.
In the video, Brodsky explained why he made that choice.
“I’d rather do that than bring two little girls into a men’s bathroom full of grown men and dirty stalls.”
The father said he believed escorting his daughters into the empty women’s restroom was the best option available at the time and was focused on helping them safely use the facilities.
Customer Confronts Father and Calls Police
The situation escalated when another customer became upset after family members reported seeing a man inside the women’s restroom.
Video footage shared online shows a heated exchange between Brodsky and the customer while Brodsky continued helping his daughters wash their hands.
“There is a man with two little girls using the women’s bathroom,” the customer said during the confrontation.
According to Brodsky, the argument became emotional for his daughters, who were visibly upset by the encounter.
A QuikTrip employee eventually stepped in, closed the restroom door, and apologized to the family while attempting to defuse the situation.
The customer reportedly argued that a female employee should have escorted the children into the restroom instead of their father.
Officers Say No Laws Were Broken
In a follow-up video, Brodsky said three police officers responded after the customer contacted authorities. After speaking with those involved, officers reportedly informed him that he had not violated any laws.
“The officers let me know I was OK, I didn’t do anything wrong,” Brodsky said.
He also explained that bringing his daughters into a men’s restroom could have raised concerns as well.
“Taking two little girls into the men’s restroom could be viewed as negatively as me going to the women’s restroom with my girls.”
According to Brodsky, officers eventually asked the other customer to leave the store.
Positive Response Leaves Lasting Impression
While the confrontation drew significant attention, Brodsky said what he remembers most is how the responding officers treated his daughters.
“The officers came, talked to my girls, made sure they felt safe.”

He also thanked QuikTrip employees, who reportedly gave the girls free frozen treats following the incident. The father said his daughters are now doing well and have moved past the experience.

Since posting the video, Brodsky said he has received thousands of messages from parents, grandparents, and caregivers who have faced similar challenges while caring for young children in public places.
He believes the incident highlights the difficult decisions parents sometimes must make when appropriate family facilities are unavailable.
“This isn’t about one argument in a gas station. It’s about the fact that parents are often put in situations that aren’t comfortable.”
Despite the online attention, Brodsky said he does not want anyone involved to be harassed and hopes the situation encourages more understanding toward parents trying to care for their children.
“As a dad with two little girls, I made the decision that I felt was best in the moment.”
