About Us

Mission

Common Sense is published by students and Cedarburg High School to inform, persuade, entertain and provide a journalistic experience for students.

Who we are

Common Sense is the Cedarburg High School newspaper. CHS has a student enrollment of 1,088 students in grades 9-12. In 2024, U.S. News & World Report ranked CHS #7 in Wisconsin and #380 in the national rankings, placing CHS in the top 1% in the nation and #1 in the state for college readiness.

Common Sense, an award-winning newspaper, has been a member of Northeastern Wisconsin Scholastic Press Association (NEWSPA). NEWSPA has been serving high school students around Wisconsin since 1969.

Students enrolled in Journalism, an English elective class, may contribute to Common Sense, but the newspaper is an extracurricular activity. Any student may join the Common Sense.

Journalism teacher Heather Vande Sande has been the adviser of Common Sense since 2000.
