Mission
Common Sense is published by students and Cedarburg High School to inform, persuade, entertain and provide a journalistic experience for students.
Who we are
Common Sense is the Cedarburg High School newspaper. CHS has a student enrollment of 1,088 students in grades 9-12. In 2024, U.S. News & World Report ranked CHS #7 in Wisconsin and #380 in the national rankings, placing CHS in the top 1% in the nation and #1 in the state for college readiness.
Common Sense, an award-winning newspaper, has been a member of Northeastern Wisconsin Scholastic Press Association (NEWSPA). NEWSPA has been serving high school students around Wisconsin since 1969.
Students enrolled in Journalism, an English elective class, may contribute to Common Sense, but the newspaper is an extracurricular activity. Any student may join the Common Sense.
Journalism teacher Heather Vande Sande has been the adviser of Common Sense since 2000.
Letters to the editors
Letters to the editors must be signed and may be submitted to Ms. Vande Sande at [email protected]. Letters may not exceed 200 words, and editors reserve the right to edit libelous material.
