United States — Consumers who own certain Cooluli mini-fridges are being urged to check their appliances after a recall was issued over a potentially dangerous electrical defect that can create fire and burn hazards.
The recall covers approximately 250,000 units from several Cooluli product lines. According to the recall information, the affected mini-fridges contain an electrical switch that can short circuit, potentially causing the appliance to smoke, overheat or catch fire.
The recalled products include certain 10-liter and 15-liter Infinity, Classic, Glow Beauty and Vibe Series mini-fridges.
Which Cooluli Mini-Fridges Are Included?
Consumers should pay particular attention to the configuration of their appliance.
The recalled units have an internal power supply and two power input ports — AC and DC — on the back. Models with only a single DC port are not part of the recalled group described in the notice.
The mini-fridges were sold in several colors, including black, blue, green, white and red, as well as versions featuring multicolored patterns, photographs and logos.
The affected units can be identified using their batch numbers, which are printed on a label located inside the mini-fridge door. The recalled batch numbers include 1535 through 1545 and 1200000 through 1202080.
Consumers who are unsure whether their appliance is included should check both the model information and batch number before continuing to use the unit.
Reports Include Fires, Sparks and Melting
The recall comes after the manufacturer, Ningbo Iceberg Electronic Appliance Co., Ltd. of China, received reports of potentially dangerous failures.
According to the recall information, there have been at least 19 reports involving mini-fridges that were smoking, sparking, burning, melting, overheating or catching fire.
Those incidents reportedly resulted in more than $80,000 in property damage. One person also reported a smoke inhalation injury, adding an injury concern to the fire and property-damage reports.
The electrical problem is particularly concerning because consumers may not realize there is a problem until the appliance begins overheating or producing smoke.
What Consumers Should Do Now
Consumers who own a potentially affected Cooluli mini-fridge should stop using it immediately.
Cooluli is offering a free replacement DC power cord for recalled units. Consumers can visit the company’s website and enter their model and batch numbers to determine whether their mini-fridge is included.
Those with recalled products will be instructed to unplug the appliance and cut the power cord. They will then need to submit photographs showing the model and batch numbers.
After the information is verified, Cooluli will provide a replacement DC power cord and a permanent sticker designed to cover the AC port.
Consumers should follow the company’s recall instructions rather than continuing to operate an affected appliance while waiting for the replacement.
