Fresno, California — A house party in Fresno ended in tragedy after a heated argument between two young women was followed by gunfire, leaving 26-year-old Marione Tsegay dead and another woman facing a murder allegation.
Tsegay, a recent college graduate who had been building a career in the medical field, was rushed toward a hospital after suffering a gunshot wound Saturday night. Despite efforts to save her life, she was later pronounced dead.
Argument at Fresno Party Preceded Fatal Shooting
According to Fresno police detectives, Tsegay became involved in an argument with 24-year-old Nemadia Knuckles at a house party.
The confrontation eventually escalated, and gunshots were heard.
After Tsegay was wounded, one of the people attending the party attempted to get her to a hospital. The vehicle was intercepted by a fire truck near Fruit and Shields avenues at approximately 9:20 p.m. Saturday.
Paramedics immediately began providing emergency treatment.
Tsegay was then transported to Community Regional Medical Center, where medical personnel continued life-saving efforts. She was ultimately pronounced dead.
Police later identified both Tsegay and Knuckles as part of the investigation.
Suspect Arrested at Fresno Restaurant
Knuckles was arrested later that same night at a Wendy’s restaurant near Blackstone and Weldon avenues, according to police reports.
Authorities booked the 24-year-old woman on suspicion of murder, and her bail was set at $1 million.
The investigation into what caused the confrontation and exactly how the shooting unfolded remains ongoing.

Tsegay Was Building a Career in Health Care

She graduated from California State University, Fresno, in August 2023, where she studied kinesiology and exercise science.
She later worked as a physical therapy aide at Fresno Heart and Surgical Hospital, continuing to build experience in the health care field.
Graduation photos showed Tsegay wearing a “first generation” sash, highlighting an accomplishment that appeared to hold special meaning for her.
Before pursuing her medical-related career, she had also spent several years working at McDonald’s, eventually advancing to the position of assistant general manager.
Friends Remember Her for Her Kindness
Following the shooting, friends and members of Tsegay’s community shared emotional tributes online.
A pastor who said his sister had been friends with Tsegay described her death as coming “far too soon.” In a tribute, he remembered Tsegay’s accomplishments, dreams, smile, and the impact she had on those around her.
Friend Victoria Criner also remembered Tsegay as someone who was consistently “so sweet” and praised her creativity.
Criner said that even though they were not among each other’s closest friends, every interaction she had with Tsegay was filled with kindness.
Those tributes paint a picture of a young woman whose life extended far beyond the tragic circumstances surrounding her final moments.
Police Continue Seeking Information
The Fresno Police Department’s homicide detectives are continuing to investigate the shooting and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
Authorities have encouraged witnesses or anyone who may have relevant information about the party, the argument, or the shooting to contact investigators.
The case remains active, while Knuckles faces the murder allegation in connection with Tsegay’s death.
